Does it really matter if I buy the eBay header wrap, as long as its 100% fiberglass?

How long would I need to cover both headers, y-pipe and up-pipe?

Should I use 1/8" thick or 1/16" thick wrap.

Anything else I need to know?

Honestly? Spring for ceremic (Jet Hot) coating. I originally had the turbo wrapped with DEI from Summit (took three 50' rolls! ), but the silicone spray they give you to seal the wrap with wouldn't ever stop "curing" (i.e. burning in, all it would do is smoke and stink...)

There's a place called American Stripping Co. (not kidding) that does a Jet-Hot-like coating, and is very reasonable. I see no reason you Kanucks wouldn't have something similar!

The entire hot side is already coated

I'm doing this based on other research that shows improved turbo spool up times with coated headers being wrapped as well.

What's the piping made of? Some piping likes to crack when coated and wrapped.

Heck... some piping likes to just crack in general, but the wrap speeds up that process significantly.

About company for the wrap... I've only used the Thermotec/DEI stuff.

haven't these header people heard of tempering/blueing/quenching ? G.

i plan on getting the nautalis kit . i have WR headers. would it be better to get the headers jet-coated or just wrap them?

so far header wrap has not shown me anything spectacular or anything to prove it better than a coating and I have seen quite a few cars with wrap. Not impressed. Get them thermal coated and call it a day.

Get them coated I have the header wrap also and it still smokes occasionally when it gets wet or if you ever get oil on them.

that has nothing to do with retaining heat.

warmonger a while ago took a set of coated msds headers... wrapped them, and ended up decreasing spool up times by quite a few hundred RPM....

That's the reason behind getting them coated AND wrapped.

The headers are already coated... I don't need to get them coated again, so please don't tell me to get them coated.

In that case, I also use the DEI heat wrap and it seems to keep things cool. I haven't had any issues with it coming off and the high temp spray paint that comes with it seemed to do the job. I sprayed the headers with the paint before wrapping and then sprayed the wrap after the headers were wrapped. I picked it up from summit for $80 (two rolls, paint, and metal zip strips). I still have almost one full roll left over after both headers and my y-pipe.
