So I'm guessing that since fastcougar decided to make himself a llc, he started selling broader adspace, because we used to have msds and krazy kustomz, and now we have "the possibilities room lingerie" and other funtastic ads. It just seems kind of odd, since this is a "family forum" that we now get nifty lingerie ads.

Actually guys, the site in the lingerie ad belongs to my wife and I. We're trying to target some non-traditional places for advertising to see if it's worth it or not. In any case, the ad is work safe, the site itself is actually PG-13 (no actual nudity) though if you work at a place that is pretty restrictive on sites, you'll want to check it out after work.

If you've got any questions about the site or want a coupon code, PM me. The coupons will go back into effect once our 20% site wide sale goes off in a day or two.

Thanks,
Rick

Heh, I'll try to keep my personal pics off the site ;)

Ya, that outfit is a bit on the racier side as far as pics go, but its still not "nudity" by definition since they do have fabric covering them.

Since we're discussing the ad though. What do you think of the idea of advertising directed at non-traditional areas? The line of thought is that if we advertise in a place where there would be people that have a need that isn't getting served (such as NECO) we might garner some sales from those places.

Thanks,
Rick

I think its a good idea to advertise everywhere, and I've never actually talked with the owner of an everywhere ad. It seems that wherever you go you get the same type of ad, and I generally don't click on them. Neco is a weird one, since it is a car forum, I would predict that A) gold and platinum will never see it, B) registered will click once, then again by accident, C) 99.9% won't buy, unless they want to support a fellow neco. I would just branch out and place ads on other forums, and whatnot. This one alone probably won't be very lucrative.

Personally, I don't care about anything on the site, (nudity-wise) just pointing it out. I don't mind the ad, I was just surprised to not see my precious MSDS ad.

I can't imagine that ad being "work safe" unless you work for an auto repair shop or something like that.

Is nipple PG 13? I checked out the site and the stuff seemed reasonably priced and all, but with the images up there I will have to consider checking less at work to avoid my boss coming and being behind me and me having some chick in her teddy at the top fo the page.

Not that I can get on to this site from work anyhow - the government spoils all the fun - but if that doesn't come automatically with IE, I'm guessing a lot of people can't download that to their work computer. And yes, I'm a gold member - I saw the image before I logged in. It's the first thing on the page, semi naked women, how can you miss it.

My reason for being shocked is that after years of the "keep it clean, this is a family site" bs, that has suddenly become hypocritical bs.

??? I'm so confused ??? What is so wrong with that ad? Girls in their undies. I see more skin at the beach. Does that mean the beach isn't a family place? According to my superviser (who knows about NECO and doesn't usually care) who just saw the top of this page, it's the seductive pose of the mostly naked woman on the right. Now, I will probably lose my NECO priviledges during work hours.

I was going to say something to the effect of "family forum???" Haven't we banned/ warned / flagged whatever people who have had less....provocative avatars, and dirty language?

Almost half of my patients are teenage girls. I can't risk them (or more importantly, their parents) seeing that ad on a site I'm viewing. And, as I work for a company and don't own the practice myself, I don't have administrative privs on the computers to allow me to install other browsers or change settings to filter out the ads.

just use a freaking host file

overwrite your stock windows one with this one:

www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt

and your internet experience will be 100% better... i find it kills 90+% of all adverts and banners and keeps other nasty stuff away

if u need help figuring out how to edit your hosts file PM me

as for all this non-sense about being a family friendly forum and all the hypocracy... grow the fudge up... if u have "family concerns" about your kid being on this forum then it begs the question "if you kid doesnt have a cougar or isnt old enough to drive why is he/she on the site to begin with"???

honestly... im all for the swear filter and a certain level of moderation, but do we have to boil things down so tight so people can view this stuff at work so that i becomes not fun anymore???

It's funny that hypocracy is brought up since I'm "now in it for the money". I hate to admit it, but I'm running the banner for Rick AS A FAVOR and making $0.00 on it for the 2 months that it's run! However, if it's going to stop members from browsing, I'm wondering if there is a need for a smaller membership group, called "Bronze" or something that ALL it does is stop the banners for a very nominal fee ... say half of Gold's membership price ... $6/year. Would that suite you guys/gals better?

IMO, I'd say no. You already have a very low price solution to removing the banners. $12 is nothing. In the amount of time people have complained about it, I'm sure they have waisted at least that in their company's money! And if you are one who says you do this on your own time, figure out what your time is worth. Pay the $12 or deal with the banners.

LadyX

That's pretty much my thought on the ad. It's a tame piece and you see more skin in the ads in Sunday's paper. Yes, if you click the link and go to the site itself there's more provacative stuff to look at, but if that's your concern please don't click on the banner ads at a place where you would feel uncomfortable with other people seeing what you're looking at.

Yes, Trevor is running this ad as a favor for me for nothing (thanks man) just to see if it converts to any sales since we're a newer startup and still working on our advertising and sales. I'd actually been talking to him about doing this for 6 months so it has nothing to do with the site becoming a business proposition.

Thanks,
Rick

*I*, at least, NEVER called you a hypocrite. I just pointed out that you're now running this "for profit", and since advertisements generate revenue, the way it typically works is that whoever pays the most gets the primo ad space. Frankly Trevor, all I care is that NECO stays up and running, I don't care if you have to pimp your mom in Cuba, as long as NECO continues to function.

Secondly, no, I don't think a lower cost membership is a reasonable option. I'm not trying to be a dick here, but if you break down the cost of a year-long Gold Membership, it works out to 3.2 cents per day.

3.2 cents. Seriously, if you're not willing to pay 3.2 cents per day to make the banners go away, I don't think there's any amount someone would pay. And I would have never noticed these banners because I am "remembered" on all the computers I use, at home or at work, so I never log in, and keeping this in mind, I'll never log out, because no one can access my stuff anyways.

That right there is the anchor statement.

I don't find a couple a complaints a "hypocritical" consipiracy. We are all here for some reason or another. However maybe Rick can tone down the banner ads a little? Just like avatars and sig banners, people do view this stuff at work. As a matter of fact I'd say most do. Or is it possible to have them run in a timed fashion?? Like say around 4:30pm to like say 7am? That way it still can get traffic without the worry of administrative recourse on individuals?

I just revisited the banner ad campaign setup and realized that I mistakenly set the priority to "high", thus why it was showing exclusively ... my mistake. The banner is now in rotation with all the others, so it should be disbursed more and thus, you have a like a 1 in 4 chance of seeing it. So, those at work, until I can change the banner itself, simply refresh the page until another banner comes up ;)

Truthfully it doesn't cause me major grief it will just take my time spent on here down a few notches (maybe not such a bad thing). AND if it is up there and has images like that the only problem I really have is the limitations put on avatars which would likely not exceed the limit that banner is controled by.
