ive been searching hi and low for turbo stuff. my cougar has the zetec in it. i plan on porting and polishing the head and upgrading the internals. im assuming that the eagle rods for the focus would work... im planning on doing the works, turbo timer and boost controller, spearco W.A.V.E intercooler, t3/t4 hybrid turbo, 42lb/hr injectors, i dont know what to do about a MAF yet, ect.i would like get like 220-250 fwhp. i dont know if i should top mount the turbo and do a log style header or do a bottom mount, any opinions or info? any info about my build up would be awesome, i could use any kind of help. the only other thing i gotta worry about is my atx tranny holding up... thats a whole other ball game.

99 4cyl auto...Don't bother man. All that time and money to get 220-250 fwhp. You're starting off with the wrong platform. Enjoy your car, and when you wanna go faster look into buying something else.

well some people just want to work with what they have.... and well slapping a turbo on a atx may not sound good but according to ford the CD4E can hold 300 lbs/ft.... well there are upgrades you can do to the tranny valve body including sonnax valves and the transgo ****kit... and a must is a huge tranny cooler... i belive there was a member in the contour forums who had a contour 4cyl supercherged pushing 160hp @ the wheels ...

well im not interested in building a super car, its a first project for me to work on and fab up. the car is gonna be daily driven, so theres no need for tons of power, just a little something to have fun with. plus i bought the car for 500$ and it is in excellent condition, havent had any major problems, just normal wear and tear and maintence, ive already put 30000 hard driven miles on it, im going to be picking up a second motor to build also. and i figure if i dont want to push it too hard 200fwhp is more than most stock turbo charged cars, and with that number in mind, the trans should be fine, i just had it rebuilt 1500 miles ago.

:bs:

Even with a good rebuild, the CD4E chews up ~20% of engine power, and the 2nd gear clutch design is notoriously weak. It is NOT the way to go. Look to swap in a V6 MTX subframe and go 3L if you want power. "Turbo" is recently just a ricer buzzword and isn't as simple as just "slapping one on" (not implying that's your intention, luvmy99cougar). Build up an N/A motor first- The experience alone is worth it.

A 4 cylinder automatic Cougar is rare just by itself...I'd say that rarity goes along with modding it also. Hey, if you can do it, that'd be one helluva project.

im still gonna do it, i think that if im careful enough and dont get too crazy, itll be fine, i still think that its gonna be fun to build it up and gain some experience in fabricating, plus im prolly one of the only people out there thatll have a turbocharged 4 cyl cougar with an automatic, i think its perfect just for daily driving, if i was gonna race it all the time, thats just a different story... thats why me and my dad have a 1970 dodge challenger r/t in the garage...:)

You know that there are only about 500 I4 ATX Cougars made, imagine how many are still on the road. Hold on to the car and keep it stock... you never know how much it will be worth down the road ;)
