Question about shutting certain systems down in tune...?

OK, I don't know if this has been covered yet, but for me here in Massachusetts, when it comes to emissions testing, I have a few questions about XCAL2 systems shut offs...

Like the O2 sensors...if they are shut off, and no cell light ever comes on, Does the system seem like it is running normal if the OBDII is hooked up for emissions testing, or will it say "system not ready" ???

Same with the EGR system...if you remove the EGR valve, pipe, DPFE sensor and vacuum lines, etc..., will that cause a "system not ready" for emissions testing, or will the OBDII reader think that the system is working normal???

I know a few of us here in New England, and especially MASS, have these questions, but haven't posted them here yet... Please help us out?

you know that is a great question as I know that alot of people suggest turning off the down stream O2 sensors ... i would be in the same boat here in CT ...

edit: if you are using an xcal2 couldn't you just flash back to stock for the test then flash back to the tune? well as long as on the stock program you are running ok ...

From what I've seen of the emissions scannes, the test don't say anything like that. They just don't come up at all as needing to be run.
There won't be anything about EGR.

But on that note, the only test you might want to shut off is the catalyst test due to headers. The EGR system on our cars works fine, is easy to fix if it does break, and is an actual benefit.

However, to answer you questions directly -- No it does not say anythign about the tests when they hook up. This is based off some nice pictures a guy going through California emissions took of a before/after emisions test with his tune installed. It looked good to him so if that helps you...then good.

I asked the local exhaust shop if they recommended any stations for a sticker. They pointed me towards a gas station and I haven't had any issues ever. Even with a test pipe in and a CEL for a misfire.

My friend used to run an inpsection station here in MA, and whenever I would get tested, he would hook up the OBDII machine and run the test... if I didn't warm up the car enough before hand, the system would read that the Catalyst system was "not ready" and it wouldn't fail, but the test couldn't be completed at that time...

So basically if a system is shut off completely in the car, would that OBDII testing machine for emissions pick up that those systems were not working?

And what benefit is there for deleting the EGR system?

From what I gather it doesn't mention the system at all. I think it reads available tests from the PCM. If you shut off the system the no available test, the system is mute about it.
Now the tech might wonder why there are almost "no tests" available to run, but it won't tell him you are missing any.
It will just run the tests that it is capable of completing and report those results.
