NYS plate question

I have a question regarding transfering plates from to different owners. My old car the galant has personalize tags I want to put on the Couger but is registered to my Aunt.

So in short does anyone know if its possible or what forms to fill out or do i have to wait till she turns it in and let the plate recycle and hope no one gets them before me?

From what I can gather...

Your Aunt and you will have to both fill out MV-82 forms and get your registrations changed. I believe they can just transfer the plates after that. The best thing to do would be to go down to your DMV and ask as well as get the required forms so you'll have everything ready when you both go to make the switch.
