Ok, some of you people may have seen my post in the 2.5 V6 sectiuon about transplanting a V6 engine into my xetec cougar. However i have decided to now go for the turbo route with it.
I have been looking around for suitable kit and finally found this:

T3/4 turbo kit
http://www.turborevs.org.uk/Turbo%20Kit.htm

With the kit you get:

T3/T4 turbo
38mm Wastegate
Uprated injectors
Intercooler
Uprated fuel pump
Manual Boost Controller
Dump Valve (you can choose between HKS or TurboXs)

I am going to be saving up to fit this kit but will purchase the turbo kit fairly soonish. I am going to have my cylinder head ported and polished whilst the kit is being installed.
On a note... other things i will need will be:

- Turbo air intake pipe
- (already have focus central 65mm T/B)
- New exhaust downpipe
- Aftermarket ECU/Piggyback ECU module???
- Manifold adaptor flanges (i dont know what these are or wether i should just get new intake and exhaust manifolds)

This is an email from the company when i enquired about the kit being able to fit the cougar...

Our T3/T4 turbo kit will fit your car, you will need to change your downpipe and also your manifold will need adaptor flanges (both of which your installer should be able to provide for you).

Now i dont have much knowlege about turbos/FI, and i have a book on the way to explain things. However until that arrives can anyone let me know what else i will need.

Thanks, iv updated my list. However iv read the FAQ and it says the cougar can take up to 300bhp before needing forged internals. Id be happy with around 250:)

Those look like ebay "kits", which is where I got my original turbo and wastegate. Don't buy it yet! Make sure you know exactly what you want first. Those cheap turbos can be hit-and-miss as far as reliability.

If you're just going to go with stock internals and want to keep it pretty cheap that might not be a bad way to go. You'll want a turbo that efficiently flows a maximum of 250-300Hp worth of air. That way you don't get an oversized turbo and it will spool up faster. If I did it over again I would try and find a slightly used Garrett turbo from a Nissan.

That website refers to "installer", but it really means installer and fabricator. You are going to have to find a place that can fabricate a complete custom setup. That includes an exhaust turbo manifold, turbo exhaust downpipe, Turbo and intercooler air piping, and running oil and water lines. You will easily be around $2000 for your "installer" costs. (It pays to have a friend who can weld and fabricate, which I luckily have)

This also doesn't include your "tuning" and M.I.C.(MAF Injectors Chip) costs. So, the "kits" you're looking at aren't even close to full turbo kits.

its amazingly cheap (even compared to a civic) to mod the zetec, with the focus out there, anything that works for the 2L will work for us so for a bit more u can have the peace of mind of built internals...and then add some f/1 cams....then u'll be running strong and safe ;)...for a economical amount (within this hobby)

as for a turbo, there is no shortcut way out.....enless u go s/c but thats $$$$

i was plannign on a turbo... but then i heard California is thinking of making the city i live in to be smogged... so that might be just a dream. right now, Julian is a no smog test area... but Cali is thinking of making it a smog zone next year. i hate californias laws.
if you need any advice or help on the turbo, ive done a bunch of research haha. so feel free to ask.

Ok, so now all turbo cars will be illegal? When you say smog do you mean emissions? There are ways around passing inspections in order to pass your car. On tuner's there is a sticky how to pass inspection if you live in NJ and NY. What to do and even how to tune our fuel trims. NY is damm strict, if we can find a way, I bet you can. Don't let it turn your turbo dreams away:biggrin:

in california, and other engine modification other than a catback exhaust... is illegal. and the open your hood and check for evvvvvvvveerything. they even hook the engine to a computer and check for other computer components and for cams/cam gears.

Well i managed to buy another ukcougar.com members V6 with mods that i will be more than happy with. So the turbo idea is out of the window. Would have been nice but meant saving up for some time

I wanna swap a few things over to the new car though.

Yeh not bad isnt it  I still wanna transfer a few things across though but yeh its nice.
I was gonna go turbo as i wanted more power and thought of getting a V6 but none with mods were coming up and i didnt wanna start over. Its took along time to get my car as it is and i was chuffed when this came up. The biggest bummer is its not lowered but ill transfer my eibach pro springs and dampers over from mine. Ill loose my sports clutch too, as i am most certainly not pulling the gearbox apart on 2 cars to swap them!!!
