so i ran my brake rotor and pad a bit too low and now im stuck with metal shards from the rotor all over the rear end of my car. i went through a toughless car wash, went back to a self serve car wash. and it has failed to take off the shards. i dont want to rub it because i fear that it will scratch the clear-coat and dont have the money to get that detailed out.
is there any kind of cleaner that could help get these shards off without damaging the paint? its really quite ugly having a clean car with brown speckles all over it.

Murdock-i cant really get pics of it right now. i dont have a camera available. my dad has it and is out on business.
1Cougar99-thats what i wasnt wanting to hear. lol. upon further inspection its covering like the rear half of the car. its nasty becasue i touchless washed the car and then put wax on it and i can feel it though the wax.
looks like im in for some fun. im no fan of claybaring

i love claybar ;)
I did the same thing on a front brake a while ago, and that one wheel is the same way - at least stayed to the wheel... but it would be a PITA to claybar - so for now, it's the trunk spare ;)

i powerwashed the hell out of the wheel and its still a little brown in the corners. but the 16s will be going on soon so i will have time to clean it once its off the car.

Claying isn't THAT bad ;).
As far as getting the remainder of the rust off the wheel, try getting a wheel cleaner with oxalic acid in it and a few brass brushes.

 dont think I'd take a brash brush to painted wheels.

You don't have to go crazy with the brush, the acid will help to break the iron up and brushing lightly will remove it.

still... I wouldn't use a nylon brush on my wheels...
would you run a brass brush across the rest of your car? painted wheels scratch just as easily as painted body parts.

i ahve some kind of wheel cleaner from Meguires. it works prety well. and i used it right before i powerwashed the rim. but as i look towards the back of the rim, i can see that it is startng to al flake off leaving nice clean paint behind.
and the most ive used for scrubbing on the rims is a extremely used dish sponge with the scrubby stuff on the back.

i will when i do it. they have salt all over the roads again so i cant wash my car yet. it will just get all salty again and be a waste of a couple hours. especially with claybar. but i will post on how it goes...

Simple Green or Purple Power (the BBOX special) will work on the wheels too. Be sure to rinse them off though, don't let it soak in for like, a long time.
