I am volunteering to organize the caravan and try to coordinate up with other chapters, let me know if you have any thoughts/ideas. My Preliminary Plan:
Google Maps Link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=Phoenix,+AZ&daddr=Kansas+City,+MO&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=31.564064,59.765625&ie=UTF8&z=5&ll=35.281501,-103.754883&spn=16.2198,29.882812&om=1)
Everyone gather up in the Phoenix area Tuesday evening (the 3rd), get a good night of sleep for an early morning.
Everyone roll out of the Phoenix area appx. 4AM! We've got a LONG trip, so an early start is best! If we work things right, we can travel mostly NORTHBOUND on I-17 while the sun is rising in the east, and keep it out of our eyes.
Head east on I-40, possibly meeting any SoCal'ers who come across this same route.
Here's were things could change. As of right now, if Royce can go, he has family/friends who could put us up for the night in Kansas City. The only problem is that KC is a little out of the way than a direct route to Youngstown, OH (I think its a two-hour drive difference). Right now, if weather is good, we can make Kansas City in about 17 hours or so.
If Royce CANNOT go (or if its decided KC is too far), we can go a different and shorter route, but overnight accommodations would have to be made (there may be a NECO'er in Springfield, MO we can stay with, I'd have to check. Springfield can be made in 14 or 15 hours from Phoenix.) If we stay in Springfield with a NECO'er, we can start possibly picking people up along the way.
Head out Thursday AM EARLY, and try to pick up some more chapters along the way (Midwest, Gateway, Land of Lincoln), then make the long final trip into Youngstown, OH. Springfield to Youngstown would take in the 10 hour range.
Currently myself and Greg have talked about driving out there, with others possibly riding along. We are still 5 months away, so there is nothing set in stone right now, plans could change along the way. Keep tuned to this thread for updates!
