View Full Version : ATX Chirpping Tires in 2nd gear!?!?!?!?!?

Alright, if you get on the gas from a stop, sometimes I can get the tires to chirp in 2nd gear on dry pavement, going strait (P.S. this is my g/f car, so it never gets driven hard). But other times it shifts nice and smooth. I don't get it, some times it shifts like crap (really hard at times) and other times its fine. The CEL is on and I checked it, said something about torque converter stuck in off position. I also disconnected the battery to reset the computer thinking that would help but it came back on about a week later. Any of you guys had this problem??? any fixes??? Thanks

although im sure that can't be good in our slushboxes, I must say congrats on getting them to chirp whatever the cause -- my atx only squeels when it's wet or when turning on pavers  lol.

Not sure if its the same thing Royce has been dealing with, need a little more info. What Royce's transmission does is once its warmed up, it shifts VERY hard (a very harsh JERK), and spins the tires. It does it even when he's only going half-throttle and just driving, when it shifts it just BANGS in VERY hard.
So to help better, answer these questions,
Does it do it only when cold? Only after long periods of driving?
Does it only do it on the 1-2 shift? Or all shifts?

The "typical 1-2 bangshift" is no where near violent enough to spin the tires. It only occurs when you're letting off the gas anyway (usually much more violent when just starting your drive and the car is cold), so I can't imagine that'd be the culprit. I don't know enough about the working of the slushbox to even guess here, but iirc, weren't people speculating royce's problem had something to do with the pressure of the trans fluid?

Is there an easy fix for it if that is the case???

1 to 2 bangshift won't chirp tires. I've felt it in my 2000 ATX. Its more of just a thud that you can feel abit. Something alittle more serious has to be going on in that black box that is your transmission...

the black box is the valve bodies. The transmission isn't all in there. LOL
