Do it yourself... It's not that hard of a job... all you need is a jack and Jack stands... It may be cold outside, but be a man :)

PB Blaster works wonders for rusted bolts... just spray thoroughly and let sit, then spray again... Try to loosen... if not keep repeating... spray, then loosen... etc...

Whelp....Mastas king of the ramp, im not sure his rental rate. I find women and assist in the process of finding the hole, and Jeremy...well...Jeremy's tool is the best in the business and Im sure its pricey. Together, we build great charcoal pyramids.
Perhaps beer is fair? He'd have to answer that one.
We could road trip. I can fit everyone in my car and get great fuel economy!

Honestly I would lend a hand... But I work on Saturdays (and every other day), and I'm busy this Sunday and next Sunday (Super Bowl)...
But Tef is 100% correct...
One time I was unable to find the hole, and with his help and the help of a very attractive horny underage girl they aided me in finding the hole.
At times, it has been stated that I have very small tools. But as we all know, it's not the size of the tools but their quality. And my small toold get the job done...
When Masta gets involved, a simple suspension or header job goes from being a few hours to needing several months planning, followed by months of hard labor, and then years of physical and mental rehabilitation.
Those were the days...
Anyone been to virginia recently?? Still warm and moist??

If you want to snap some pictures and circle what you need help with, I'll gladly lend you a hand...
From your description, I can only guess what you mean. I haven't done any cougar work in well over 2 years... but I think I could still swap an upper and lower IM and TB with my eyes closed.

Sorry... I work on Saturdays and it's f'n cold outside...
It's easy to do... just don't break the plastic vac lines that run into the top of the UIM... Don't over Torque the bolts, especiallt the ones that hold the UIM down... Use new gaskets (a little bit of oil on the rubber rings of the UIM gasket will help it seal better, and last longer)... and take your time. No reason to rush...

the only hard part im seeing is the TB cable.....I would do the rest but until i understand how that works i wont even start on it
pgtatx
02-03-2007, 04:39 PM
The TB cable is simple...
If you have a camera... take pictures of all the problem parts and I can explain everything to you.
With no cougar in front of me, and the fact I haven't been under the hood of a cougar in 2 years (actually more)... I can't give a great description.
If I can see everything I can help...
Do you have an ATX or MTX and what year?
cougarblack

reach back there and it will go to a plug in the firewall. You will be able to pop out the plug by hand...
Also, climb under your dash, and dis connect the cable from the gas pedal. You can then also see where the cable goes through the firewall.

Yeah, the throttle cable is cake.. just get under the dash and disconnect from the gas pedal.. Disconnect from the throttle body and from the bracket (pull a small C looking clip up I believe).. I dont remember if you pull the cable out of the firewall from inside or outside.. but its a rubber grommet, so it shouldnt matter much. If your replacing the bracket, your gonna have to pull the cruise control cable out of the bracket also.
Ive done this swap a bunch of times also so feel free to ask whatever. Pictures will help the process out though.

And dont break those vacuum lines up top.. you can get them again, but no need to break. To remove them.. you need to push down on the clip that holds them in the UIM... you will see a small ring on each port between the actual vacuum line and the UIM.. just push down on those and pull up on the vacuum line at the same time.. should slide right out.
I know from experience that they break easily.. my first SVT UIM install on my cougar was no fun.. I think I was one of the first 5 or so to do it.. actually set up a Group Buy for them in the very beginning.. wow how time flies!

HUH??
No need for the 19's... you will be very unhappy with them as you don't need them.
Also... why would just cams necessitate the need for larger injectors? They wouldn't... The minimal cam options for this vehicle, the cost in involved, and the power differences make cams a useless option for a standard basic 2.5L.
If you want power, just get all the bolt ons and be done with it. N2O is an option if you want a little speed here and there, and you know what your doing.
There are just some things you should save your money on when it comes to the cougar. I'm speaking from pure experience here.

the reason i said cams 1st was because of the chip....so when i get it burnt everything under the UIM would be done....If i get the 19 tuned at the very worst wont it just give me the same amount of power.........I was just listing those things because execpt for the cams i have everything else here sitting in the closet, and i wanted to make use of them

On my 99 cougar I was able to make 173whp with just Bolt-ons. I did not have aftermarket headers or gutted cats, and was running the stock injectors.
After that dyno, I added the larger LIM and some N2O. I only ran the N2O like 2 or 3 times... but it just wasn't for me. Definitely fun, but I had no use for it.
Unless you mod the car where it necessitates the use of larger injectors I recommend you still keep the stockers. You will be much happier.

Take some pics of the problem.. me and my family are home with the flu, but it sounds like if you broke a vacuum line, your gonna have to head on down to the parts department of your local ford dealership and order up the parts. Or if you want to wait, look for an online place that will give you a break on the price.
