Are you using that home Powder coating kit from Hot Coat?
Clutch
01-22-2007, 09:53 AM
No, i'll have to dig up the name of the kit, it's been sitting around a while waiting on my Building to get finished, everythings going to be done in a 24x24 building that i finished up this week. Yes i can do rims, the ovens i got can do those. Thats the main reason i went with a two oven setup so i can do different things at the same time.
Clutch
01-22-2007, 09:56 AM
yeah, i might have gone overboard on the ovens, i have a spot for an even bigger one outside of the building if i decide i need to start powdercoating motorcycle frames. I'll pick up a few manifolds this week and get started seeing how they come out, i may have to try a different media to get the effect your going for.

Shhh, dont tell the fiancee that i didn't buy the washer and dryer. We aren't even living together yet and she wants to buy a washer and dryer for a house we don't even live in and the wedding is 8 months away....they can wait, powdercoating is a necessity for life.

I'm going to buy some more powder from Eastwood since you brought it up Jrak, I have heard alot of good things about their chrome, alot of chrome powder just doesn't look good but i hear good things about them all the time. Micah, you me, my building....cuddle time

yeah......
If no polish.....color would be nice. It's just so ugly, lol. I've seen some polished and it looks really good. I could also get someone to port it.....unfortunatly the STi's manifold is the same size so there's no use in buying one of those. The red looks hot though....
Clutch
01-22-2007, 12:09 PM
i should still be able to polish it, may take a finer grit to not damage the aluminium.

Eh, I would stay away from the eastwood stuff. My buddy that has a powdercoat shop said that their stuff isn't very good and it is way more expensive than a much better product you cant get. HE does all the powder coat work for GM racing so I will take his word on that. I will be seeing him again soon when I pick up all my parts from the group buys and I will get some info for you.

I ordered all my other colors from other suppliers but i have heard good things about their chrome so i picked a 2 pound bag up. We will see if it is any good, if not, only 2 pounds to lose.

just hit some more curbs and they will even out. Trust me. There is nothing like curb rash all the way around the lip of a rim too, it's a good textured look.

A friend of mine does powder coating. He did my UIM, TB and valve covers. He used the almost chrome. It looked good at first but with time it doesn't look so good. My valve covers were done with a candy Red colour and they still look good when they are clean.
Here is his website, he has a picture of my UIM and Valve covers on there.

Yeah I'm not happy with mine. The first time I did it we didn't clear it. The power coat ended up peeling. the second time we did clear it but it lost that shiny Chrome look.
Clutch
01-24-2007, 09:09 AM
All depends on the clear, and if the powder is made for clear or not, also the worst things i have heard about chrome is with lower intake manifold, the heat from the heads makes the chrome peal off.
