Is it possible to buy a xcal2 with a tune from a totally different car as long as its been returned to stock and get it reprogrammed with a tune for another car??

Yes, you can load any tune in at any time. Simply load the new tune over the old one or select a different slot to load the tune into using the Extreme Tune software. The XCal2 holds 4 tunes ;)

 I thought it was three tunes.....at least on all the ones I've programmed.
Oh, unless you count the stock code that it retains...that would be four tunes then.

yes. Or as long as the car it was used on had the stock code reinstalled into it.

Hmmm.
That means you could reinstall the stock catch code into "any" car with the same processor strategy and it resets the X-Cal unit???
If so that sounds like a cheap way to get free tunes if a few of the same codes hooked up. It also sounds too easy???

How would it be free tunes? Once you put the stock code back onto the car...it is stock again PCM wise. The Xcal can only tune one car at the time.

he means that if you had another ecu/cougar with the same pcm code then you could 'return it to stock'

More like a free xcal for the next car you tune.
maybe its possible but it would have to be tested.

I have been watching them on ebay. If you could pick one up cheap it wouldnt be to bad, but for the prices there going for, just isnt worth it. (180.00-250.00) then pay warmonger for a tune another 200.00. you would be better off getting one from brenspeed for 375.00 with a tune unless you can get them cheaper without a tune and send it to warmonger. Me personely would rather give my money to a fellow member rather than some other company.

I know what you are talking about. In fact I was also watching them on ebay for the last week. It seems every unit eventually sold for $220 or more before s/h.
However, that's still cheaper than buying a new unit. Brenspeed charges $375 with a tune, but that tune will not come close to what Warmonger can do. Then one needs to contact Warmonger again, and that's another $200 and up. Brenspeed sells 'recycled' XCal2 on ebay for $239 + $12 s/h, which does not come with a tune. So the overall price is still near $500, but reasonably, how can people expect to get a very good tune under $500? Take an example for the WRX community -- $400 - $600 with the Access Port (same type of device like XCal2), and another $400 - $600 for a Pro-Tune. That's almost 1K there. The difference is that Access Port can use off the shelf tune (somewhat conservative than optimal) and we don't have that readily available.

Even if you don't use me, there is no comparison to a simple 'box' tune and and a comprehensive tuning service. I'm WAY UNDERPRICED for what I do. Just ask Fastcougar. You get what you pay for...except with me you get more.
Don't worry, I'm may fix that and raise my prices dependent upon the amount of work involved....
