ok, ive made threads about this before, and i havent really found anyone with the same problem via search so i figured id post and see if anyone had any advice...

Ok well i had my MAF sensor replaced after i bought the car due to it was throwing check engine lights(was gettin 30mpg or more with CEL) Replaced it with one from autozone. Cel gone, but MPG dropped to 18.6 mpg and i was throwing a tremendous ammount of white smoke out of the exhaust. So i replaced the MAF sensor again the other day, and i go up to 30 mpg again! And no more extreme white smoke from exhaust upon startup and drivin for the first few min. Now heres where it gets tricky. When i got the car, the over drive cable in the shifter was cut. So after replacing my MAF sensor, and gettin the 30mpg, i soldered the cut in the cable back together. Over drive works, i can feel it kick in when i press the button, and disengage when i turn it off.... But im back to 18.6 mpg even with it on! Not throwing any Cel lights, white smoke still gone, but ****ty gas milage is back in town... And its frustratin the hell out of me! Anyone have ANY idea's of what it could be? I could prolly cut the OD cable again, reset the ecu by unpluggin the battery, but i want to have my OD workin ya know? AHHHHHH this is drivin me nuts....

But on a lighter note, i put my roushe spoiler on today :) and i should be puttin the rest of the kit within the next few weeks most likely...

Are you REALLY getting 18 mpg, or are you only going by what the digital readout is telling you?

calculated it, and its about right, gettin about 220-240 miles in a full tank of gas, and i was gettin about 340 before the orig maf replacement, and ya the digital read out is about on point

That's were mine is about, I calculate in addition to using the computer. I usally get around 18 in the city and above 30 on interstate, sounds normal to me!

i get 18 period, doesnt matter if im local, or on interstate.... now that i re-connected the over drive cable......

The overdrive wire you speak of would only allow you to lock OUT the overdrive. If it wasn't hooked up, then you would've always had access to the overdrive gear and would presumably have gotten better fuel mileage (on the highway) than you would be if you are now turning it off.

Not really relevant but you seem confused so I thought I'd mention it.

Just the usual, spark plugs, wires, fuel induction cleaning (Seafoam, BG44K), etc. None of those seem that likely to me, though - and I can't see why the OD wire would have anything to do with it (outside of losing some MPG at highway speeds). I'm wondering if the PCM is dumping more fuel in than it should be for some reason... No codes, right?

no cel, went to autozone and they refused to read it if there wasnt a cel..... And if i have od on or off gas milage stays the same under driving conditions. And when i turn od off i definitly feel the difference, i dunno its weird
