Hey Guys,
Ok I found a place that can make a 220 amp alternator for our cars and the contour, now it is pricey but from what Phillip from High Output alternators tells me these thing are damn near bulletproof. Here is the e-mail he sent me today...
Application : 99 Mercury Cougar 2.5L
HO Part Number : 82707A
HO Rating : 220 Amps
Our suggested solution to your power needs:
1. Replacement Alternator HO 220 Amp Alternator Part # 82707A
Price includes our 1 year hassle free warranty.
Suggested Retail $650 Your Price $429
Our alternator will directly replace the stock alternator, and interface directly to your car’s computer. No need for brackets or messing with the wire harness. The only change you will make is the output from the alternator to the battery. We recommend 4 gauge or larger.
2. PowrCap We also recommend you add a battery-capacitor to your battery system The PowrCap 400.
Suggested Retail $249 Your Price $199
Contact me if you have any questions.

Ok so then I talked to him for a little while today, he said that they come with a 1 Year warranty and he has them in stock and it's only $21.00 for shipping. These are designed for high demand electrical systems i.e. I.C.E., autocross, ect. Now I definately understand 220 amps is a lot I am just in the beginning stages of this so I am not sure if we can get them in different amperages or not. I told him that I would hit the forums and get some feed back from everyone here and on CEG. Any comments or questions are welcome, like I said this is in the beginning stages so please be nice!!!
Anyways please let me know if you are interested, leave me a pm if you are interested so I can create a list of people to tell Phillip how many people will be involved. And as with any group buy the more people join the lower the cost.

I have no real interest in one of these, cuz there's no bloody way in hell I'm shell out that much coin for an alternator, but I know the owner a little, HO is out of my home town, so I can vouch for the quality of their work and etc.

oh god no.... we had a HO alt GB about 3 years back that turned out to be a giant scam and a 100% failure rate. [I dont think this is the same company... but I felt I should mention is]. Please keep in mind that with our already high failure rate of our alternators that you are taking a gamble with something like this. Also keep in mind a HO alt does not increase the performance of your car and is only applicable if you are running a massive stereo system [your sony xplode amp does not qualify as massivev].

I'd rather throw a cheap alternator at the car with a lifetime warranty than spend over 500 bucks on one.
Edit: BTW, your link sucks. You may want to fix it.

ok guys here's the deal, it's not over 500 dollars for the alt, for 1 alternator it was quoted at $450 shipped. You're right it is a lot of money but as BBox vouched, these guys are legit and make high quality stuff.
This isn't going through me, I'm just a messanger and trying to get a good alternator so we don't have to break fingers and waste a good portion of our day every six months to a year changing one of these.
As far as what the idle amperage is I am unsure but am more than willing to find out for you.
I still have to find out if we can get a lower amperage alt or if they only come in 220 and that may lower cost some, but I am unsure if they can do that for us.
j99coug:Edit: BTW, your link sucks. You may want to fix it. sorry bout that. that link was right out of my e-mail problem fixed.
i know of few friends who bought from HO and they are totally satisfied with their alt.

No problem man, just thought you should know. The alts sound great but if they don't have a lifetime warranty I just can't imagine myself dropping that much coin on one.

^^^^ But isn;t the problem with our alt is that it ground out. Im pretty sure if thats the problem the type of alt aint going to change it from breaking. Just allows for a bigger system.

yeah i said the same thing, only this time no Kragen special and I am going to reroute the battery to the rear, blah blah blah.
as far as why ours alts die, I don't really know or have a definative answer for you. Someone like Fett or Wade might know.

ok so now with the holidays over, I will get a hold of American Armiture by Friday. So now, anyone interested please post any concerns or questions about this group buy or the alternators so I can get these questions covered when I talk to them. Thanks,

I havent had any problems with my alt through these guys. I had a pretty big system and the lights never dimmed. Are these the externally regulated alts?
