Unfortunately, I'm having a tought time getting my boss to find me a trip and justify the expense... Gold status does come with some good perks over Silver, so I'm willing to pay out of my pocket to get the miles I need...

Detroit to Ft. Myers for 150$ (after taxes), which will give me enough miles... depart Tuesday morning (Dec 19th), return Wednesday evening... I figure rent a car, and do the 2.5 hour drive to South Beach, and party it up...

Anyone wanna come?... just take care of your own plan fare, and personal expenses... I'll pay for the rental car and airport parking....

PS: I'm not planning on getting a hotel... I would rather rent an SUV and take a power nap in there instead....

Are you drunk Pierre?
This is the most off the wall idea I have ever seen on here.

That's a pretty cool idea Puck... =) If it wasn't the automotive shutdown time, I'd take ya up on that, I sure could use a break myself...

If I lived closer and it wasn't Christmas time, I would go with you. I love doing $hit like that!

well given no one is bitting, and my friends all *****ed of the very short notice... looks like I need to implement plan B....

Northwest gives a minimal of 500 miles per trip, so even though Chicago is 244 miles away, since the mimimum is 500 I'm going to fly to chicago, hand out in o'hare airport for as little as possible and fly back home... should be done in 6 hours, from the time I leave my house to the time I get back home.... pointless trip, but the perks received far outweigh the price and time I need to take to make it happen.

You're weird.

in todays post 911 world, security can be quite a hassle... gold means i get to go into the first class security line.. .you know the one with 3 people in it... gold also gives me quicker access to first class upgrades... the difference between flying coach and first class is like night and day...

another benefit is that my "total" miles will accumlulate 2x faster, so that trip to paradise in 2008 will be free...

this year I've done over 50 trips... if it cost me 150$ to make the 50+ trips next year that much more enjoyable, its very well worth it...

I plan to sneak into the first class security line all the time now. Get past the first guard and they don't question you anymore.
