Just a question tom,

Does this apexi potentially do the same as the greddy unit?

Just wondering if I should add this type of thing to my watch list?

Thanks

Not worth it imo...

Works better on FI factory cars...

I use one on my Cougar. It's a great tool for small adjustments. I use it with my wideband sensor to adjust the air/fuel if it gets out of range. It taps into the same wires the Greddy unit does, but the Greddy unit has the possiblity for more options.

i am in blackcoogs position. i used it to tune my 2.5, throttle response, and torque, and high gear, low speed gaining speed ability. it feels so much better now and im pulling over 20% fuel. i wish i could touch timing, which would be crucial, but it has definetely improved my engine. for the 80 i paid for it i love it, for 400, xcal, sct or greddy.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

So the fact that the greddy has the ignition wire harness, is this what makes it superior to the apexi unit?

Also I guess the ability to plug a greddy into a pc makes it much more flexible and good for datalogging as Tom said in another post.

Greddy doesn't make an ignition harnesses for our cars. Tom had to custom make his own harness to control the timing. It didn't sound like an easy job.

Where would I find the details of the setup etc. so I can have a read???

Search the old CEG boards for "emanage" if you want to learn more.

Apexi does work the same way as the emanage with regard to the MAF adjustment, but lacks all the other features.

It is a very good tool for dialing in your air fuel ratio after you are already "in the ball park" with your tune.

I would pick one up if the price was right considering you want to gain a bit more horsepower on your engine.

It does have a better display than the emanage...unless you buy the GReddy E01 and hook it up. However the E01 is about $600 !!!

Thanks for chiming in Tom, I will have a read through the old posts over on ceg to get an idea what is infront of me. I must admit that I have zero experience with electronics but like most things unless you start you will never know.

Woa, just been reading through that first thread where you got the unit and started developing it, man I am impressed Tom, you are truly a pioneer.

I am also looking at something called an ostrich/fordemu (similar price to the greddy unit) that fits in via the j3 port on the eecv. have you ever heard of the moates equipment? any good feedback on these at all?

No, I never heard of that.

Moates is like the EEC-tuner. (no surprise) IIRC it is only EEC-IV which is a basic code compared to any EEC-V.

Yep, that is the one, he now has eec-v tuners that can emulate live and then you can burn the data onto a chip. His systems can read the four banks of data in the eec-v. Of course the only prob is that it does not data log (It seems the only system that datalogs through the j3 port is the tweecer/rt)

Of course that then got me thinking I could pick up a pcm from america for an atx cougar and just slot it into my harness and see what happens (kaboom  ) I think you suggested that before demon.;)

Is there anyone on the forums that runs a tweecer/rt at all? Would love to find out a little more on how they find it. and if anyone wants to sell one to me really cheap just pm me

But seriously, I am finding that my complete lack of understanding electronics bits and pieces is a bit frustrating as I would like to have a try at setting up my own wiring direct from the diagnostic pin to see if it is sending out data that can be picked up by my newly purchased laptop.

I should be able to get details of the pinouts, but just have no idea what to do next to build a wire to the pc and what sort of shielding I would need etc. Also in my discussions with the tweecer supplier here in australia he spoke about "buzzing out" a few of the wires to see if it is wired the same way as the american MPV. But of course I have no idea what he is talking about. How would I check to see where a wire goes to in the pcm. and on this how do I check what voltage is coming through on these wires to see if something like my TPS is outputing the right sort of info? Christmas is here and I have some money I can spend on a few cheap sort of gadgets, would a multimeter type thing do the job??

I also have a diagram of an "elm" type device that can read output if it is there in obdii form (iso9141 for the NA mpv I think). So I went to the electronics store this morning, they have everything conceivable, but my question is what would I use to build it?

Do you think you could walk me through the construction of something like this, Tom? Or will my newbiness in this area be the death of a project like this?

I have too many questions I know so I will stop there so this won't get too long:rolleyes:

You were just talking to him. I only know of two people that used a Tweecer on the contour/cougar platform, and DemonSVT is one of them.
