Anyone have this problem before? I brought it into the shop today.

it's a missfire. could be a bad plug wire, bad injector or injector plug, bad sparkplug, bad coil, bad crank trigger, or bad cam trigger. Gotta know what the code is man.

First thing you should always do when that light flashes, is Check and see if the Engine is still there.

I neglected to do this, and have been paying the price ever since...

Good point.

If you don't already know, don't use Bosch Plugs and Wires. Mine had 13-14K on them and made the car misfire in the 3rd cylinder. :banghead:

yeah, most all of us know that and preach it quite often to sick with either Motorcraft or autolite plugs and Motorcraft Wires

the best way to stop a check engine light is to disconnect it, then it never comes on.

Or a Mil Eliminator like I have on my ZX2.

I know some people had problems with the Ford Racing Wires, but I haven't had a problem with mine.

A lot of people have had problems with 'em . . . I'd say you're the exception to the rule Mav.

No problems with mine on the 'tour. Nor with my Vitek wires on the Cougar.

Can a misfire be the only reason a CEL is on? Because my CEL is always on and sometimes I catch it flashing. I didn't know that it was because a misfire until now.. But CEL always on plus the flashing...that just means I have more than one problem??? =/ And sorry for bringing back an old thread, but had to get a conversation going somewhere in these threads. :)

Yea...the person who sold me my cougar..did that lol..and disconnected an ac hose..so I was without ac for a while until it was reconnected and the bulb was replaced...and then the CEL came on :) lol...

Hook it up to an OBDII and run the codes. A dead giveaway to a a cylinder not combusting or misfiring is that when you hit the gas you get a telltale "kick" as you move forward. The car will seem to lurch in a sense but in shorter quicker jumps.

Typically that is the symptom of a misfire and is usually more noticeable depending on how much throttle you are giving it.
