View Full Version : Cougar Of The Month

I was on Focaljet and saw that they have a focus of the month and the vechile is voted on by the members. each month they choose another class to vote on. just throwing out an idea and i thought it would be cool to do on here. have it advertised for the person who wins each month to be featured on the splash page when you log on to newcougar.
taken from the FOTM(focus of the month) sticky:
We're still working out a good method guys. Here's what we are going to do this time to see if it works smoother.......
- Must be a current active member of FJ to be considered.
- Cars to be considered for FOTM must be officially Nominated in the Nominations thread. Car owner or any other member may nominate the car.
- Each member may nominate ONE car. Any other nominations made by that member will not be considered.
- Each month will have a theme. Please nominate a car that fits into that theme.
- Picturtes of the car should be put in the thread.
- Entries will not roll over to the following month.
- The 5 cars with the most nominations will go into a poll for the members to determine the winner of each month's FOTM.
- FOTM will get a sticky thread for the next month all about the car and the owner AND the car featured on the main page of Focaljet.
- Winners of FOTM can not be considered for future FOTM with the same car.
1st - 20th : Nominations accepted in Nominations thread.
21st - 31st : Voting for FOTM by members
Happy voting!
how does this sound
mod: before you move this, i thought this would be something to have in video and pics. like how photoshop got added. have a folder dedicated to the cougar of the month
thanx

I think it would be better if we had a monthly beat the crap out of the person who is ripping off members with phony transactions. How about that one?

Wow, they make it awfully complex there . . . wouldn't it be easier to just have the car's owner be responsible for submitting photos, mod lists and etc, and you can do it every month if you want (until you win, then there should be some kind of moratorium on entering again and/or winning again) and then letting people vote on the entries, may the best car win?

In a Ranger forum I am part of, they have it set up so every month there is a different theme that the pictures must follow. Themes like night shots, one was cemetary shots, girl with vehicle...pretty much anything you could think of. The theme could be posted at the beginning of the month and voting could be at the end of the month...or something like that.
This way, everyone has a chance to win...instead of just the best looking Cougar.

Here are their contest rules...
This contest is open to anyone with a camera. It will start on Friday, a thread will be opened and we will let you know what the subject of the contest is. Unless we say otherwise, this contest will focus on Rangers/Explorers/B2s/Mazdas/Fords/Autos in some way.
Unlike the Photoshop Challenge, the Snapshots Challenge will not have a bi-weekly schedule. The contest will run for as long as we think it should based on the subject. (7, 14, or 21 days)
When the contest closes, a new thread will be posted and you can post your entry in there. If your not going to be around, let someone know so they can post it for you. The submission thread will stay open over the weekend and voting will take place from Monday to Friday. Winner picks the next contest picture.
Contest Entries - No bigger than 800px (width or height) and try to keep the file size to 200KB or smaller.
Other Stuff - Don't pinch from other people. Regular RPS rules apply. No heavily processed/photoshopped entries unless we say otherwise, this is a photo contest after all. Minor edits/adjustments are fine. Please don't break any laws or do anything stupid.
Disclaimer - By participating in the contest, you agree to not hold RPS liable for anything that may happen.

It does not really have to be a competition, just something fun to do. Lots of people have been looking for hi-res cougar pictures lately, and this would be a great way to pull lots of pictures together, with various scenes and themes.

Yeah, I suggested this when we migrated to the new forum
I still like the idea though.

We just need one or two people to corrodinate everything, opening the new threads for photo submission and voting.

Here's the post I made, along with a link to another board (same vBulletin as ours) so you can see what kind of format it's in.

I think it sounds fun...and challenging. It will force us to get out and take some pictures of the freakin' hunks of metal we spend so much money on.
Let me talk with teh ov3n about it and we'll see what we can come up with.

We've been there and done it. It worked for a short time, then it just fizzled out.
It would be interesting to try again though...

i think that would b fun to start up. i think that for u to b nominated, that someone else should nominate u and ur car. it would b kinda a pain in the arse to sort out if everyone nominated themselves. i like the "category" pics idea. then, as other people stated, everyone can get involved not just the people w/ a ton of money and outrageous cars. there should a thread where people interested can post the pics of their car for the runnings then everyone else can choose from the submissions. it should b set up like the cougarfest07 thread. people post pics as there proposal then we choose.
also, it would b a cool way for calender pics. we can have the winners from the 07 months b the pics for the 08 calender.
i volunteer to help run this thing.

This could be fun. i don't know if you need to nominate people or see pics. Just vote on who's car you like best. You can't vote for yourself, and you can only win once.
Frosty

If pics are submitted, they can be submitted into an album in the Gallery section, and votes can be tallied that way because there's a rating section. That's the way it was for the calender picture voting.

This really sounds like fun. You could win more than once just not twice in a row. More ideas please!!!!
If it were to come to be voting should start the third friday and end on the last day of the month at noon. Tally the votes and have the winner posted by midnight on the last day of the month.
I actually wouldnt mind being involved in some way.

I think its a good idea, but the wrong time of year for it. Right now the majority of people have their cars up for the winter, and some cars won't be seeing the road for another 3-6 months. I like the idea, I just think it'd work better in Spring...

now THATS what i call weight reduction!!! slap a barstool in there and youre set!! to stay on topic...I like fordrule's idea.
My idea is that we use our winter beaters and see who wins best out of those. again going along with the "theme" pictures, different every month.but JUST during the off season, then when spring rolls around and all the **** melts, we bring the cougars back

Instead of cougar of the month, how about photo of the month. Has to be cougar related though. That way you could have just a shot of say, the UIM you have spent weeks polishing.

saw the same kinda thing on a doggie forum too. the 'winner' was given some silly little image they could use for an avatar or add to their sig for the next month.
