View Full Version : Cougarfest 2007 Location Discussion

This post will be for actual discussion of places proposed in the location thread. Lets keep the chatter out of that thread and in here.
x-tremekreationz mentioned San Anto, without following the location proposal form, but let me comment on that since I lived there for 10 years and have my businesses housed there...
Event Location: San Anto, TX
Things to Do: San Antonio Dragway, Drive-In, Riverwalk, Cruising Downtown/Military
Why Owners Like It: Both my shop and my warehouse are located in San Antonio, and we'd have access to everything under the sun that I have access to, dynos, track time, etc.
Why Owners Might Not Like It: Too touristy, VERY long drive for the majority, and... the gang activity.
In all I love San Antonio, but I think it'd make a horrible location for Cougarfest. Mostly because of the drive for everyone, but also because this group would not fit well into the city -- there's a lot of locations that would be "off limits" after dark for people here, including the entire West/East/South sides of the city. ;) Anywhere we'd be allowed to have fun in the city would also mean we're around the worst people in the city...

Brian, that hotel is incredible!
My only problem with it is like....from the pictures, I feel like I should wear a suit while staying there! It looks real classy, and that pool is incredible looking. Its funny to say, but I think we need a place lower-class than that! Even the bar looks high class... I would feel bad about not using a coaster. haha!
Alot of great information there though, lots of good stuff. :)

omg, Brian, that hotel looks awesome...the pool! WOW. I hope the rates are good. And, :) you found an IHOP close by!
That hotel is awesome, but the best part about it is that it's right across the street from Handels! That place has the best ice cream I've ever had.
Ask Rikenbomb, he coerces Brian into bringing him ice cream now.

I was going to ask what the rates would be also. I don't think they would be too bad, and you figure that we could get a good deal because we're a big group.

I'll agree, the area that Brian (RacerX) is set up great. Restaurants are a stones throw away. There's plenty of places to eat without getting lost or going far trying to get there.
The best part is the Handel's icecream place across the street. All I can say is wow. Well I can say a lot more...

I am working on getting rates for that hotel. Just having a hard time getting ahold of someone in the "know". Still working on it though.... If anyone else on here, (E1) has the time or anything else and wants to get ahold of the hotel, please feel free as my schedule is getting busy this week. i might also say that indy has been excellent to us. if we tried to do any of the stuff that some people tried this year, the whole group would have been kicked out. Plus with better weekend planning this year we can have both autox and drag. I know its in my "backyard" but i dont care, it works
For the people saying that there isnt anything else to do cause theyve done everything and this is their only shot at vacation, Dont show up a week ahead of time!! there is plenty of stuff to do in indy that you dont know about, and there are plenty of other cities like chicago, st louis and others that are near by that you could go to that couple days ahead of time and then roll in with some other people.

This is very true...
It might be easy to dismiss, but everyone by now is pretty used to the carefree environment we enjoy at Indy... We would have to be on our best behavior at any 'new' place, and at 2am........... well, most of us AREN'T! lol.
We'd also have to make sure that if we move, its not a Cougarfest Virgina repeat.... if we all remember THAT disaster.

I agree with you guys. The people in Indy are VERY relaxed on us being out at 2,3,4,5 in the morning. I dont know how they would react around here to that. The other thing that escapes me is why the push for auto-x and drag racing. It seemed to be much more enjoyable without that pissing match in the mix.
Football HOF is about 1 to 1.5 hours away in Canton.

the only time ive had my car on the drag strip is at fest, and once at hamilfest. the autox at CF04 is what got me into autox in the first place. I think that it gives us an opportunity to really show what the cars are cappable of, autox not drag. I think really that the way we did it in 05 worked out well with us joining indy scca at an event. it kept costs down for us that way. and im sure it could be done in any other location it would just take a bit more planning and communication with the local scca. the drag could be done at a test and tune at a local track.
i know that there were some people that didnt come in 06 because of the lack of drag/autox. but the karts was just as much fun for most of us

I'm with ya Ryan, the karts still are owning my foot. :P (Damn small karts.)
Brian, that location you described was excellent, I wish more people would do the work like that -- we'd definately get some good choices then! I'm swamped this week, as well, but if you want to PM me the hotel info I will try and call this Friday while I'm on the road.
My biggest concern is exactly what Jason stated -- the Indy hotel HAS been unbelievable when it comes to "having our back" on issues. Like Brad said, how often do you light fireworks off from the roof, get them taken away, and in the end have the security guard return them AND say he was sorry...TWICE. :D (I didn't think he meant it the first time.) ;)
About AutoX and Drag, I think its a good thing, mainly because of one reason. Most people here KNOW the Cougar is not the fastest car on the block, therefore its a little embarrasing for people to go to open test and tunes for their first runs. Doing it around a group of friends such as ourselves helps break the tension, I think. It's a good way to get more people involved in LEGAL racing.

Y'know, just because we talked about this a fair amount over the weekend . . .
If CougarFest is not in Indy again this year (and I have a feeling it won't be, probably somewhere east of there like Ohio), then every mother****er who *****ed about CougarFest being in Indy again, or it being too much of a drive from the east coast, had better show up.
I'm pretty sure that everyone who actually showed to Fest this past year had an absolute blast - including myself, whom the city tried to kill, repeatedly - and I didn't hear a single complaint from anyone at Fest about it being in Indy. So for those of you who didn't show up, if Fest gets moved this year, its gonna be put up or shut up time.

11-12-2006, 08:40 PM
man... whatever - cougarfest is about the people, not the city. ;)
I really don't think anyone should decide to go or not go based on the city...
Too long of a drive? fine - Not enough money? fine, - Wedding? fine
Being forced to work, have to take care of kids, no free time? all fine...
Not going to hang out with all your 'friends' from the cougar forum JUST because its in the same city/hotel... fine... but hella not cool. :(
Its huge bonus points that we have a hotel in indy that welcomes us with open arms... I hope, and i'm sure we all can agree on just how important that is. Its the foundation for the event, and we feel secure there. :)
And I'm sure theres more, but in my sleepy, post-dinner phase... I feel that a successful cougarfest of any size, relies on 1- a good hotel, 2- an accessable location, and 3- for people to actually show up! thats all ya need for a good time. :)
I'm fine with Indy, and sadly I think I was one of the only a hand full of East Coast people to make it last time. I actually like Indy, it's nice having an idea of where things are and how to get around... I really doubt I'll make it if it's much farther west than Indy though. :( But I'm definitely in for Ohio. ;)

I totally agree Ryan. This was my exact point 2 weeks ago, all this complaining, and no-one has put up a location suggestion yet. See, people don't want to do the legwork, they just expect the committee to handle it all, and for CF to happen without a hitch. Unfortunately, they don't see the hours and hours of work we all put in to make sure the event DOES happen, and even with a few "bumps" along the way (ie, fireworks off from the roof) we still managed to have one helluva good time last year.
I dunno, I'm of the "CF is in Indy" camp -- more of a tradition than anything. Hell, the hotel has our group photo hanging in their hallway. :P And since they still want us back after last years antics, I'm willing to go back there... Not to mention me and the bartender are real close now, so that's a bonus. ;)

I'm also in the same shoes as Brian.. I'm on the fence... Indy is good to us and it's comfortable and familiar there but at the same time a new place could be cool too. People just need to realize that with only Ohio and Indy as choices there's still a 50% chance we'll go back to the same place. ;) So get your location submissions in there already!

I dunno about the five-oh, but if you, who live in Michigan (State motto: Get bent! YOUR WHEELS THAT IS!) say the roads in Ohio suck, well . . . I'm afraid . . . I'm VERY afraid . . .
The turnpike in Ohio isn't bad at all. The smaller roads are a little rough, but nothing dangerous. More like uneven, not potholes. The Ohio highways are actually smoother than the Pennsylvania turnpike.
The state troopers in Ohio aren't a lot of fun, but they don't bother you for the most part unless you're really speeding. ;)
Now, my car isn't any where near as modded as most of you guys, but they haven't bothered me at all there, even with out of state tags. They didn't bother Henry either when we test drove his car with the new engine.

lol, well if a caravan to pro motion tuning was PROMISED and part of the cougarfest schedule I have a feeling it might actually help the turnout to Cougarfest. I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who wouldn't mind paying James a visit
...maybe that way some of our members could find their shipments or get their money back, I know I have a few choice words for the guy, lol.
Mike.
Although I'm SURE the look on his face would be nothing short of pure shock and horror... I don't think thats QUITE in the fun loving spirit of Cougarfest. haha.
But hey, while we're at it, why don't we do a whole east-coast tour and hitup Tr0nic's place while we're over there too eh? heh...

Why Owners Might Not Like It: Too touristy, VERY long drive for the majority, and... the gang activity.
In all I love San Antonio, but I think it'd make a horrible location for Cougarfest. Mostly because of the drive for everyone, but also because this group would not fit well into the city -- there's a lot of locations that would be "off limits" after dark for people here, including the entire West/East/South sides of the city. ;) Anywhere we'd be allowed to have fun in the city would also mean we're around the worst people in the city...

i am sorry but you mind clarifiying "the gang activity" and also "worst people in the city"?
