Hello, I think the CV joint on the driver's side is going. My car is vibrating very bad going straight and left. As soon as I turn to the right, it stops. There is slight movement, maybe a 1/16 of an inch going in and out of the halfshaft. It's been doing it for quite a while. I'm also having a problem finding a cv joint. I don't really want to buy one through Ford because I'm probably going to pay 4 times as much so I was wondering if there is anywhere else I can buy one. I've tried searching all over the internet and I can't find anyone that carries one for a Cougar. How much is a CV joint through Ford and how bad is the installation if you do it yourself? I know it is quite an involved job when you have to rebuild the cv joint. Let me know if you think it's the cv joint or something else and if you have any other comments, please post. Thanks!

If you need a new CV check www.partsamerica.com. I had a lot of trouble getting mine just a few weeks ago, but they had the one I needed. So, if that’s your problem then that’s where I would go. You can even take the old one back to Advanced Auto for the core charge!

Before you buy that though think about other possible problems. Are your tires balanced? Tie rods in good shape? Ball joints ok? Take a look around before you buy stuff.

My CV was a real pain to get out! They are not all like that but some take excessive force.

Alright I'll check parts america. Can I just buy the bearings or whatever for inside the CV joint or is it better to just buy a whole new half-shaft?

I just felt better getting an all new one. I don't know how good it is the rebuild them...

Another memeber should have good advice for you.

Just get them from auto zone. They come with a lifetime warranty and only set you back about 130 a side after core trade in. Kinda nice to know you'll never have to buy another.

Alright thanks, I'll check autozone. I think i'd be better off just going with a new one. It would probably save a lot of time versus rebuilding it.
