View Full Version : Spec Stage 2+ Clutch and Violent Shaking

Well I now have a Spec Stage 2+ clutch and getting the coug started from a stop is a pain. I also have urethane filled mounts and a Torsen LSD. When I engage the clutch the whole car shakes sometimes. It is usually the worst when I almost have the clutch fully engaged, but if I engage the clutch at around 3k it hardly shakes. Also, if I do a soft launch there aren't any problems.
So, I'm wondering if something could be seriously wrong, or if the clutch just needs broken in.

You should get vibrations with those urethane mounts. The severity of vibrations does depend on the urethanes rating. Filled mounts are KNOWN to vibrate the car and make noise as well.
Spec has a default 500 mile break in. No hard launches or radical driving. Take it easy on the damn clutch because if not it WILL go bye bye.

That happens with me, though I have solid motor mounts... if I let the clutch out at a low RPM it will catch real fast, though at a higher RPM is when it just takes off like a bat out of hell.

Basically if I let the clutch out slowly it rattles and shakes violently, but if I let it out quickly its ok. (I'm letting it out quickly without being too hard on it)
I end up pushing in the clutch when it happens because it feels like something could break.
Maybe I'll make a video sometime.
Same thing with the Stage III... But I needed the clutch to hold the turbo... Comes with the territory, I guess.
Good to know I'm not the only one.

You sacrifice alot for performance. You gotta give something up to get a little. Every aspect of performance parts. Suspension is the most known for that. You go from a rubber bushing(lots of deflection and movement) to a urethane mount(noisy and stiff) your going to get vibrations and noises. 0f course race car guys have it worse with their COMPLETELY solid mounts. Just two gussetted pieces of metal holding the engine up. Of course those are race cars so its the norm for them.
