Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

Ok enough with the stupid 3.8 crap. Back to 3.0. I was going to pik one up out of an 01' escape for 900 dollars. The engine has 23k on it. Is that a good. Does anyone know where i can get one cheaper?

Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

$900 is a waste of money. $450 shipped should be the max you pay for an '01 Escape motor, regardless of mileage. Find one on car-part.com.

Hmmm. I see that post. Never seen that before. Call and ask- A "350" is usually a 5.7L GM engine or an old Turbo-Hydramatic transmission, neither of which applies to the Escape.

Nope- Find another one from YOUR YEAR (there are subtle differences between years) if ATX, or an '01 or '02 (revised shift forks) MTX trans from the same web site. Again, lowest mileage is best, but there's a breaking point for price.

As for the current listings for the 3.0L, looks like prices have gone up a bit- But you can still negotiate with these yards! Don't think the price listed is the price you pay- Ask "I'll buy it if the price you listed includes shipping", etc- Bargain!

Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

lol, yea ill call up. I read that FASTCOUGAR turbo/3l swap build up(very informative) one thing i dont get. THere are two opposing views:
1) 01 escape engine with fifty thousands miles on it is best for the biuld
2) 02+ taurus engine with 10,000 miles is better for the build( i think he meant any engine with less miles is better?)
He was talking about getting a taurus engine for 300 with 10,000 miles on it, which i cant find anywhere. I am very confused < I would assume da taurus engine would be the way to go but FASTCOUGAR insisted that if you wanted to do it the right way you needed the escape engine????

And i have the Atx rite now 99 cougar. Ughm im assuming the atx from my year will also bolt up to the 3l? I hate transmissions and i dont want to convert to manual cause it is a crapload of money which i dont have, and i would't know how to do it.

Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

I HIGHLY prefer Escape engines. They don't have crazy balancer spacer/pullies and you avoid the 2000MY "Frankenengine"- A bastardized mix of injector sizes, intakes, water pumps, etc. Stay away!

2001-2004 Escape engines, though some recommend against '03 and '04 engines due to possible zircon contamination left over from the casting of the block.

2005+ Duratecs have cast cranks, not forged.

I always use '01 and '02 motors. Lower mileage the better, but you can always have the cylinders honed and install new rings. Clevite rod bearings are a MUST, Clevite main bearings are a really good idea.

ATX- You have a '99, so you need a '99 ATX. It's specific to your build date, which is stamped on your driver's side door. Make sure you have this handy when calling junkyards.

All CD4Es will bolt to the 3L block. Don't worry.

Install a trans cooler regardless of the engine you're hooking it to. These slushboxes are iffy as it is- Make it run cool!

Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

very true, when i buy the motor i will also be strapping on a turbo and intercooler( havent decided which yet). Should anything else be upgraded before i put it in other then the clevite rod bearings and the mains. And will svt contour uim and cams be better than what is already in there?

Oh, God. Here we go...

Sorry, man- Experience on this board has taught us that 99.9% of people that pontificate about their F/I plans are expressing themselves from their anal orifices.

If you're really going to do it, I wish you luck- You'll need to read the F/I forum, lots of FAQs, and then read some more. The UIM/cams issue has been covered ad nauseum. BTW- ADC doesn't make a kit anymore (though a "new" one that's ATX-friendly is supposedly coming), Vortechs are iffy at best but won't fit on an ATX... Several home-grown DIY kits have been done, but none ATX to my knowledge...
