Nobody here has done a Mondeo ST220 conversion. You might ask Terry Haines, a UK transplant who has done some swaps, or possibly inquire if any Contours have looked into it. Come to think of it, I recall somebody in the UK Cougar club having possibly done it.

Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

the ST220 engine will not fit in the Cougar straight. Some people have attempted this over here and I've been told that you need to use the ST200/SVT intake manifold in order to be able to close the hood. It should fit in a Mondeo/Contour though.
I'm sure it can be done with mods but I haven't really heard good things about the engine in terms of performance and durability

Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

About the Lincoln LS engine:

2003–2005 LS V6 3.0 L Ford Duratec 30 V6 232 hp 220 ft·lbf

Thats from wikipedia, it seems the engine is the same from 2003-2005?
so at the beginning of this thread why is it listed only as 2003 engine that fits with a little more work. is there more changes after the 2003 model which makes it impossible to fit into the cougar? because if i was gonna try to get this more-difficult-to-put engine into my atx cougar than id want to at least make sure its the newest engine that will still work with it. hmm also, what exactly makes it more difficult to put one of these (or the jaguar x-type) engine into a cougar versus the other basic (sable/contour/taurus) engines?

if im gonna pay a couple thousand, including labor (because im mechanically challenged), to replace my engine it would be worth it for me to get the most possible horsepower for the 3.0L size. from those of you who have replaced your cougar with the 3L, do you believe a good mechanic can put one of the lincoln/jaguar engines into a cougar without problem? i dont know how much labor would cost but im guessing around $2000 should do it. wouldnt really wanna go over that range.

No. I'm not even reading your post. All I had to do was get to the part about the LS engine before I replied.

Just because an engine BLOCK is a Duratec doesn't mean EVERYTHING else about it is the same. If you search you'll find all the differences between the various blocks covered.

If it is the same as the 97-98 duratecs will fit if you drill one extra hole in the upper right of the transmission bellhousing to fit that offset hole. My first 3L was a 98 and it just needed that one mod to work.

Question Re: READ THIS FIRST - WHAT ENGINES WILL FIT MY CAR?

Im not going through 12 pages of responses to see if anyone asked this question but does anyone know of any ford racing motors that would fit into a cougar?

Sure, any of them will with enough work.

I just got done pulling the motor for the second time, so the hard work is fresh in my mind.

forget the skill it takes to do a direct swap/removal, use your skill and "drop a cobra engine in it."
