Will MSDS fit w/o problems 3.0 and stock Y-pipe?

    Hi!
In Europe there are two 3.0 V6 Duratec engines (SE-204KM and ST 226KM) the difference betwin them is exhaust, SE has got the same like 2,5 V6 170KM...
I want to buy MSDS headers to my 3.0 SE but I want to know if they fit with no problems to the engine block and stock Y-pipe?
    Why are they called shorty?

    MSDS Installation tomorrow! second page...
Is it an optic illusion or they are shorter then stock headers which means that they wouldn't direct fit to stock Y-pipe? (need any other mods or just "plug & play")?

They will bolt right up and should bolt to the stock y pipe.

Generally there are two types of headers shorty and long tube (although I've heard of mid length as well). The MSDS headers happen to be shorty headers. Long tube headers were made for this car at one time but are no longer available. They eliminate the y pipe and the tubes from each cylinder are much longer. Generally long tube headers are more desirable because the tubes are all equal length helping with exhaust scavenging.

For example here is a picture to show the difference between a shorty header and along tube header:

*These are not 2.5L/3L headers they are some random headers I pulled off google to show you the difference between shorty and long tube.

thx, now I know what shorty header means

"should fit" it's not the same as "100% fit" ...I'm in Europe so the cost is big ( about 260$ for MSDS + 200$ send+ tax = ~570$ :/ ) that's pretty big money for me...

Had nobody installed it before to the 3.0/2.5 and stock Y-pipe?? and can say to me that it will fit w/o problem or yes it fits, but you have to do some mods....

    sorry for my english

It WILL fit in the US. No idea if there are any differences in European cars. It will definitely bolt to the 3.0L motor. Your best bet is to ask someone that has them over there. Someone has to have a set.

In Europe I can't find 3.0 V6 SE with MSDS... maybe Y-pipe in 2.5 and 3.0SE is the same (in 3.0 ST it's completly differend) ? my bad feelings appeard when I saw picture where are compared headers stock vs MSDS and at photo MSDS (this one at the driver side) looks a little shorter than stock (links in the 1st post)....

Re: Will MSDS fit w/o problems 3.0 and stock Y-pipe?

I had MSDS headers & the stock 2.5L Y-Pipe for awhile, but this was on an american car with a 3L engine swapped in. I can't say what differences there are with installing them on a newer European car. The Y-pipes might be different, or other things might be different that could cause problems. Your best bet is to try on a UK forum or hope one of the few UK member here chimes in with an answer.

The camera angles in the two pictures are different. The stock manifold is the same length as the MSDS header.

SlowCat if you hadn't got any problem, I think I will try my luck.......Duratecs V6 are the same in US and Europe so I hope that the exhaust are too (at least the first section). a lots of other parts are the same too...acconters bild the cars ... at photo manifolds and Y-pipe looks the same, but sometimes 0,5inch makes it difference...
always thought that it's an optic illusion :D
thanks a lot and I will know you what I decide to do...
