Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"
Got a few questions with my 3l build.
1. Differnce's between the Svt uim and a max honed uim ? I know alot about the svt, but idk what it differs with the Max uim. "With svt cams" 2. With either one, can the stock Tb be bolted right up to it, or does the bracket got to be modified? "I think that might have been posted somewhere" 3. Any alternative to the svt Lim? "yea yea, i know search.." 4. Is there still issues with using a findanza flywheel with the hybrid 3L or was that with just the straight 3L ? --- Pistons I've been eyeing up a set of those diamond pistons for F/I for lower compression... The questions i have is, will i have to take in consideration that im using N2o when choosing a set ? I kinda lack the knowledge of pistons and which ones you use for which. ![]()

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"
1. The max honed upper intake was sent to extrude hone to have them shove there puddy through the intake. It widens the passages inside the intake more to allow for more flow. The max honed uim is not a stock svt part it was sent to extrude hone by someone.
2. The bolt holes are the same on either as it is the same intake. The tb will bolt up on either the same way. The bracket will be the same. 3. No there isn't anymore. Sho shop previously sold a larger lim but you won't find one unless someone on here sells one. 4. I've had the fidanza flywheel on a 3L hybrid, ported 3L, and my supercharged 3L. It's been fine in all cases. Others have reported idling issues which they say the fidanza causes. I'm not so sure as I haven't had any idling issues.

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"
Minimal N/A. F/I is another story, as you're blowing air through the intake as opposed to sucking.
Now get those dirty thoughts out of your head. ![]() Larger ports mean you can get more air into the cylinders at the same pressure (psi).

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"
1. Yes. Huge difference, especially with a 3L.
3. Yes. '99 3L LIM, however it needs to be modified to work. Also use the '99 3L IMRC as well. In fact, you're probably better off using a '99 3L intake system entirely. Last edited by Rikenbomb; 05-02-2008 at 06:28 PM. |

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"
for the lim since u are doing a 3L build, maybe the nautilus adapter that replaces the LIM. then u dont have to port the 3L heads . and then u can tune the secondaries out and remove the imrc also

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"
i didn't see it said here yet, so:
When Extrude Hone offered to "max out" the UIM, they enlarged the passages as much as possible without weakening the UIM. The SVT UIM also underwent processing by Extrude Hone but not as thoroughly. You might hear talk of the SVT UIM as being "dual honed" or "single honed." This refers to the number of times the part was believed to have passed through the honing process. In short, a UIM that was honed to the max will outflow any other.

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"
there is no such thing as a factory dual honed svt uim,as confirmed by extrude honed.
i remember a max honed svt uim dyno'd and it was only around 5hp...for the cost it wasn't worth it. now on a nicely modded 3L....

You can optimize the LIM the same was as the tb.
