Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"

How about just using the 3L UIM that is free with the engine and offers better performance at the same time?? Makes sense to me.

Save yourself a ton of money and get better performance and use the proper manifold with the corresponding engine. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"

has anyone sent a 3L oval port manifold back to Extrude Hone yet ? Probably cheaper than finding an ST220 manifold...G.

The 3L intake manifolds are plastic, so you can't really extrude hone them... Also the cost of getting an ST220 Intake is probably about the same as getting an SVT & sending it to EH, even if it was part of the group buy....

-edit- And if you send an intake to the outside of a Group buy it's hella expensive...

It's the finding someone to ship it over that makes it hard... and accepting the fact that shipping will cost twice the price of the Intake.

As far as porting a plastic UIM, I'd worry about getting thin in areas but there is sufficient port area available for all but the most extreme circumstances. If anyone is crafty with fiberglass and CF, starting from scratch is one option.

Depending on the material composition, there may be plastic fillers and raw materials to work off existing parts of plastic manifolds. You'll need to be good with working plastics and with a plastic welder (aka solder iron). Might try messing with junk manifolds to see if it is workable first. Beware of the fumes!

In any case, if you want the power you'll need a hot profile cam (ie. SVT, ST220, or custom). The 3L manifolds (especially the revised 04'/05' and up) are not really a major hinderance.

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"

Spookie: Don't forget that using the 3L UIM requires rerouting the vacuum lines, fabricating a TB bracket, fabricating a return line (if return-style), and possibly relocating the battery. It might not be worth it for some people who want an engine that is stock on the outside. They can just buy the Nautilus LIM to transition between the ports and they're done.

Gorman: Extrude Honing costs $300 with the group buy.

SlowCat: You lucky bastard! You got yourself an ST220 UIM... from my buddy Rob no less!

Re: Few questions "intakes"/ "pistons"

Was the dynoing ever done with the svt cams ?

I remember a post on here before, but it was with the 3L cams.

No, the intake Dyno runs haven't been redone with SVT Cams yet.

Gamiller - Yup, I can't wait to get my car back & put up a dyno Should be good.
