Make sure you match the return or returnless fuel system.

You will need an SVT ECU to control your SVT motor.

You will need to have your PATS system re-calibrated by your dealership.

    Otherwise it's pretty much straight-up.

    Re: svt question

The SVT engine makes either 190 or 200 horsepower, depending on the year, IIRC.

The standard 2.5 Duratec makes 170.

i have a 99 cougar, how can you find out if its a return or returnless fuel system and what is the PATS that will need to be re-calibrated? one more question, does it matter what year motor i use or what year motor will give the most gains?

    Re: svt question

Return or Returnless is the style of fuel system. If your car was made before 5/99, it most likely has a return style system. You can verify this by looking under the throttle body - if you see two fuel lines, it is return style.

Made after 5/99 will most likely be returnless. Again, you can verify by looking under the throttle body. One fuel line = returnless.

PATS stands for Passive Anti Theft System. Your key has a tiny computer chip in it that sends a signal to a sensor ring that is mounted around the ignition. If it is wrong, the car won't start. By changing the ECU, you'll need to have PATS reprogrammed. A dealer can do this....possible some locksmiths too, but I'm not sure about that.

I'm not positive about this part, but I think that the 98 and 99 SVTs were return style, and the 2000s were returnless. You need to find out which style your car is.

You can always change the fuel rail and injectors from one style to the other, but I'm guessing you didn't want much work in this swap

SVT swap is good. 3L swap is better.
