    Inconsistent gas!

I dunno if anyone else has or knows about this problem. For some reason, and this has happened for as long as I can remember. For some reason, my gas differs. For example sometimes it will be normal. Then other times for example, say I have 320miles according to the ecu, I'd travel 15 miles, but only use say 4 miles according to the computer. However, a lot of times I'll get gas, or later on in the tanks life...I'll start driving and I'll use up like 20 miles in only 5...wtf!

I dunno if the tank is leveling itself, or something else is going on. It's just really annoying. I'm not throwing any codes, and the car isn't doing anything funny. I would just like to know if anyone else has noticed this with their cougar. Thanks!

    Re: Inconsistent gas!

My gas is inconsistent too.. sometimes it's really wet, sometimes it's like a cotton ball coming out of my butt.. sometimes I can't even tell if I just let out some gas.. but then I smell it.. and I'm like, "Who did that?!".. then sometimes I just straight crap myself...

But anyways, never believe the computer on your car. They don't really represent what is actually happening. Just what the computer calculates, which is never correct. Never believe the MPG counter on there either.

    Re: Inconsistent gas!

The Miles-to-empty calculation is based on your fuel mileage, I think. If you reset the fuel mileage, it'll be based on a guess (probably 25 mpg or something like that), then will adjust frequently while the fuel mileage changes rapidly. As you drive more miles, it will settle down to a better reading. If this bothers you, don't reset the mpg statistic.

For what it's worth, my computer reports an mpg of about 5% higher than actual on average, which means the miles-to-empty is probably reading a little higher than I actually have.

Just look at it as more of a timer. Mine goes down probably 3 times as fast as it should with the larger injectors and the larger engine. I don't think the gauge has any idea whats going on. It reads about 3mpg lower than it should.

Mine is terrible too. It will be reading 30 left while I'm driving and while I'm still watching it, it will turn to 0...but I still manage to drive for another three days. I just don't even use it anymore...I rather know how freezing cold it is outside(if that gauge is even right).

I've found my temp gauge to be quite accurate, as long as you give it enough time driving for it to stabilize at the air temp. (For example, when parked it can pick up the engine heat reflecting off the ground.)

Yea. Don't trust it, especially here in Columbus now that it's as cold as a witches tit. I ran out of gas last year because it said I had 30miles left... bs
