Sounds like you are simply hitting the rev limiter nothing more.

But its an ATX...it should shift before it bounces off the rev limiter repeatedly. Something is still not working correctly.

i had same problem with my car however your car is a racecar if your hitting 7-8k rpms. wow where'd you get your cougar? i replaced my plugs wires fuel filter and used some injector cleaner and it went away as far as i could tell. i don't try and redline my car on a daily basis but the last time i did get near it no hesitation. so start there then be my guiney pig and race around tell me if it stops
