    Synthetic Oil

    IM comming up on 38,000 miles on my 99' cougar and was wondering when peopel start using the synthetic oil. I heard it was mainly for higher mileage cars? can anyone please clarify? thanks

    typically, from what i have heard, the sooner the switch the better, and dont go back, the first oil change i had done on my 2000 (bought used july 3 with 37000) i had full syn put in
    No trees were killed in the making of this post, however a large number of electrons were horribly inconvinanced.

    Synthetic is NOT for high mileage cars... Get Synthetic as soon as possible... but if you've got a lot of miles, stick with regular oil.. otherwise all the oil seals and gaskets and stuff on your car might leak...

    AMSOIL is the oldest and I think best in synthetic oils.. Check them out and if you have any questions just direct them to me..

    I just switched over to Mobil1 5W-30 at around 60,000 miles. No problems, 2 oil changes later. No leaks, no oil burning. No appreciable difference in sound, feel, or performance from the Quaker State 5W-30. I'm holding out until winter, though. I noticed that on cold mornings, the valves clattered for an uncomfortably long time at startup. That is where the syn beats the crap out of the dino.
