Could this work for cold air?

Ok id like to start off saying i dont know much about under the hood of a car so this idea could be completely stupid so go easy on me. I have an idea that i dont see why it couldnt work but beings i dont know much i cant see it working. I have the injen intake on my car right now. If i were to cut about a 3-4" hole in the top of the air filter and then run some kind of tube into that and run it down either to the front grill or to the lower grill on the bumper would this work as a cold air intake?

It will work. It's just generic ram-air. As long as it's pulling air in that's not heated by the motor the car will run good. A lot of guys used to do this to the mustang and just run the ducting down to a fog-light hole with the light removed it took in cool air from there.

Instead of cutting up your existing filter, It'd be easier to replace it with a reverse cone style one and route a flexible hose somewhere down low to it. BAT sells such a kit but its only meant to REDUCE heat soak when idling. They say at like 15-20mph theres enough cooler air whooshing around under the hood and at that point the hose doesnt help any.. I was actually thinking of relocating the battery and just buying a used Injen kit and see about adapting it to an experimental CAI i'd bend up with my friends shop mandrel.

You would be running unfiltered air. NOT A GOOD IDEA.

I ran a tube from my front to the air filter. I'm in the process of finalizing some other things, but in my testing stages I've already noticed a difference.

Well im actually surprised that i actually thought of something that could help performance. Yea it doesnt sound good to just have unfiltered air coming in the tube, but couldnt i put some kind of screen there so that leaves and other things couldnt get in?

Just run the tube to the bottom of the filter, no need to cut into the filter.
