An escape 3.0L for ~$1,000 +whatever you have to buy/do to make it work with the cougar. The SVT 2.5 should be: a little cheaper, the same HP results (not sure on the touque), and a little less work i think. Im sorry if this has been already posted but i searched and found nothing.... Just an Idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: SVT Upgrades- By request
No not really. If your going to just swap the motor go with the cheaper, more powerful 3L.

Re: SVT Upgrades- By request
K, I spell this out for you. The TOP dyno plot has a 50 shot of NITROUS on it. The bottom dyno plot is a normally aspirate 3L.
You are comparing apples to oranges. Even if you go a simple, stock for stock swap the 3L is the better choice. SVT engine is rated 195 hp/170 tq. 3L engine is rated 200 hp/200 tq. The 3L is far and away the better choice if you are swapping engines.

Re: SVT Upgrades- By request
by no means am I an expert on these matters, but I will mention a few things that may cause you to have issues. The SVT engine needs the SVT ECU (or a replacement chip). The SVT ECU is set up for a manual transmission. Also, I am pretty sure that the SVT engines were return style fuel lines and your Cougar may be returnless. On the other hand, it should be a direct physical swap.
Anyone feel free to correct me - I won't get upset. --george

Re: SVT Upgrades- By request
Actually you just summed up my entire post into 3 lines. I often fluff up my posts with wording I don't need. Thanks for your reponse, looking for confirmation on it by others possibly.
That's basically my three questions: 1. ECU. I am an ATX, If I get an ADC Chip and have them program it to my mods and the 2000 SVT Engine it will work? My biggest fear is probably the smallest. Installing the engine and then going "oh it won't start uh oh." (Also, there are two chips listed @ $300 dollars on their site, I mention this later.)2. I have a returnless style fuel system, the SVT in 99 at least was return, how much work is it to make this work in my car? Or is it still just a direct physical swap and the chip does it all for me; Or is there some minor modifications that need to be done on a the fuel system? 2b. If I just get a 2000 SVT engine I'm fine fuel system wise no matter what as the injectors are the exact same as what I have. 3. If it is a direct physical swap, there should be no issues I assume besides getting a chip for my Stock ATX ECU that adapts to the SVT. I see ADC sells these on their site. http://www.arizonadynochip.com/Templ...D=7&SearchYN=N . Do I need the SVT contour one or the 2.5L Cougar/Contour one. I assume the SVT Contour since it's the same engine? I would NOT need the rekeying since I don't have a new ECU since I would have a chip because of my ATX ECU with an ADC chip. The only other thing I can think of needing for the swap would be the cable for my cruise control since my throttle cable is the same apparently! Is there anything else I should know, this sounds simple and I have the money. I'll have a shop do the install probably, I just want to make sure I've covered everything before I drop a thosaund dollars on a total engine and then find out I need another thousand in a bunch of other crap. Might as well have headers put on it while I'm at it I guess. There are some pretty cheap / low mileage engines within 200 miles of my house that are listed as running great and I've done everything to the exterior of the car I could ever want. It's time to actually make it move. ![]()
