    MAF SENSORS

Is a bigger MAF sensor worth it to buy?

yeah if you plan on upgrading everything before it. A bigger MAF is no good if you can't get enough air to it. By the way, this should be in the performance section.

Oh, okay, that's cool. I wish all posts in the wrong category would get moved to the right one.

The maximum theoretical air flow of our maf far exceeds the maximum of the engine itself. The stupid bar in the center is the only real stopper. Remember that when air goes through a tube any change in diameter will be MUCH worse for velocity then the 5mm and maybe a few cfm diffrence of a new maf. The only really logical maf upgrade is either the new ls maf with its "half" sample tube or a programable/adjustable maf to fake the computer into doing what you want. Niether is a perfect solution but both have some merrit. Leo capaldi's car uses a stock maf and it is most likely the most powerful 2.5 duratec in existence. He could use a wide selection of mustang mafs if he thought it would help... he doesnt. Save your money. The bottle neck is elsewhere... starting with the upper manifold and the throttle body id say...... well.. after the stock airbox anyways.
    Missing the old days...

I was here (or on ezboard rather) when all you could do to a Cougar was a KKM intake and a Borla.

thanks for the advise, exigent, sounds very logical. One other question, if you got the upper IM, wouldn't you want the lower as well.

Our cars already have the SVT lower, just not the injectors. We have 17lb injectors and the SVT injectors are 19lb. If you change the upper, I recommend at least cleaning the lower and if you want, switch injectors. At this time, you will need something to adjust a/f ratio for the 19lb injectors. A new calibrated MAF will do. A stock MAF with an optimizer will also do...an APEXI SAFC will too...take a pick.

ps: if you change the upper IM, definately get the SVT 60mm TB.
