    Please help to choose....

Next thing I'm doing is performing all possible changes in exhaust system that are not harmful for the car. What would you suggest? Do I need MSDS headers and Y-pipe and what exactly does it do? Is this set from MSDS a part of exhaust system? Which is better - Borla or Yo-DUDE exhaust system? Which muffler is better for Yo-DUDE system - Flowmaster, Dynomax, or Magna Flow? What about the quality of Yo-DUDE? Should I consider something else?

Ok, I guess there are only two ways here. Either go with MSDS headers and Y-pipe plus Borla exhaust system or Yo-DUDE Y-pipe and exhaust system with one of three choices of mufflers. Still very debating.

MSDS headers can be used with either exhaust system, they are not required to for use with either system but they appear to give the biggest preformance gains to the car as of right now

Headers are the part of the exhaust that connects the engine to the Y-Pipe then from there the y-pipe connects to the cat-back exhaust (behind the catalytic converter) which vent the exhaust to the atmosphere

as for which is better its personal opinion, both are very well made and give about even performance gain(as far as i know) i personally would go with the yodude dual catback system and the msds headers and y-pipe (yodude Y-Pipe does not work with msds headers)

as far as which muffler is better its personal opinion again, flowmaster is LOUD, dynomax is in the middle and magna flow is the quietest

You've said that Yo-Dude Y-pipe does now work with MSDS headers, but on Yo-DUDE website it says the opposite. The only way to attach Yo-DUDE Y-pipe to MSDS headers is by welding them together. Has something changed about that?

only 1 thing to add after OverLamer's post. The yodude you can get Aluminized or Stainless Steel, the Borla only comes in stanless steel. I think the yodude aluminized is fine for most people, pretty much the only person i would reccomend the yodude stainless to would be people with harsh winters and plan on having their car for more than 7 years or so. The stock exhaust is aluminum also so the yodude is the same quality if not better since its mandrel bent.. i dont believe the stock exhaust is mandrel or not.

My prefrence of muffler would be the Dynomax, Flowmaster is to loud IMHO. I haven't heard flowmasters on a cougar but i have heard them on a nissan xterra and there anonying. it all depends on if u wanna be heard 3 blocks away.

Everything Overlamer said was correct except for one thing. The order of mufflers from loudest to quietest is Flowmaster, Magnaflow, then Dynamax. If you're trying to decide which exhaust system to go with, the only real difference is the sound. The Borla is louder than stock, but doesn't sound quite as aggressive as the YoDude IMO. I personally wanted my car to be pretty loud, so I got the YoDude with Magnaflow mufflers. Basically, if you want your car to be really loud, go with the YoDude. If not, go with the Borla. Also keep in mind that the Yodude is almost half the cost of the Borla if you go with the aluminum setup.

no, the y-pipe is not made for the msds headers meant to type not and typed now

Damn it! I want those MSDS headers and Yo-DUDE Y-pipe together with their exhaust at the same time, but it seems almost impossible to do. Oh well...
Is Borla gonna work out with MSDS Y-pipe? Is the connection can be done by simply bolting on?

The Y pipe connects the headers (precats) to the catalytic convertor.
The Borla exhaust is a cat-back system, meaning it hooks up to the catalytic convertor and runs to the back of the car. The Y pipe and the exhaust system meet at the cat. Therefore the Borla WILL be fine because the two parts you mentioned don't connect to each other.

Now for my opinion. The YoDude is great and all. I like it, but I would rather have a Borla. Price wise, the YoDude is a better deal at $320.00 vs Borla $500+ but remember you get what you pay for. The YoDude is not stainless steel and will eventually rust. Faster if you live in a harsh winter environment. YoDude does have a stainless too, but the price is comparable to Borla. And IMO the Borla looks SO much better. The exhaust tone is perfect, not too loud-not too quiet at idle but under acceleration roars. If loud is what you are going for, get the YoDude with the Flowmaster muffler. I had the Flowmaster for like a year. It got to be annoying. Very cool at first and very Mustang 5.0 like, but there is alot of rasp to it at high RPMs. Highway drone became annoying and after switching over to the Dynomax muffler, I noticed a increase in performance. The Flowmaster was robbing me of some performance. Remember to get something you can live with and be happy about.

Thanks guys for your replies! I'm so glad when people share their thoughts and experiences, because then you make the right choice.
Anyway. Borla and MSDS headers together with MSDS Y-pipe will work together, however catalytic converter will still be the factory one. Would it be better to replace it with MagnaFlow stainless cat? What size will fit? I'm not sure if it's 2.5". Also, there are two different types of catatalytic converters on MagnaFlow web site. Which is for Cougar?
