    IMRC works sometimes ?

    Hey guys

I have a cougar v6, When i start the car and drive the imrc work perfectly until i hit 5500-6000 imrc the imrc shuts down and does not up until i stop the car for about one minute and starts it again. Is there a trigger wire i can test the imrc buy or do you have some other suggestions to how i solve this problem?

    Kind regards

I dont want to because i dont think it is the imrc because the problem is gone every time i turn off the car and turn it on again. Is there some way i can trigger the IMRC from the connector to the imrc?

its the IMRC. I had one that would do the same thing, would work for just a few minutes and then not work again until i shut the car off and restarted it (mine would stay open). in my case i was able to replace the transistor on the board inside the box as it was burned and overheating.

Relocate IMRC and the problem will be fixed. Whenever IMRC gets hot it stops working and after you restart engine it will work but not for long. Mine use to do that and I moved it under the battery tray and the problem is gone.

Mine works just fine bolted to where it's meant to be bolted. I installed a new one about 100,000 miles ago, daily driven year-round, with unwrapped, uncoated headers.

Just buy a new one and be done with it. Trying to "fix" bad ones, or replacing them with used ones, just results in more failures. And as my track record indicates, ghetto-engineering some kind of "relocation" is completely pointless.

Take it out & open it up. There is a square looking piece in the middle of the unit that is the contact for actuation of the unit. With mine, the contact switch sometimes made contact and sometimes not.You can use a volt meter set to resistance to check.
I found that I had on & off "tone" when I would wiggle the contact housing a bit. All it needed was the solder joints in that area redone. Still works 6 years later.

Mine works fine without any issues after relocating it. Now it doesn't get hot and not much vibrations. But while its bolted on engine, imagine the vibrations it has to cope and try to touch IMRC when the engine is really hot.. you will see my point. Its just a circuit board which inside IMRC and imagine heating it up. Even if I buy a new one, eventually it will fail. Am not the only one claiming this, if you dig down the old forums, you will find many happy owner with relocation. Just my opinion.. cheers.
