Fuel pressure regulator
I have a 2001 cougar with the 2.5 v6 in it and I need a little help. The car's been bucking lately, and its been getting worse. I got a CEL the other day and it came up as fuel pressure sensor malfunction. The guy at the parts store told me to try replacing the fuel pressure regulator. I ordered one and when i took off the UIM to replace it, the car doesn't use the same type of pressure regulator. The one i ordered has a fuel inlet and outlet on it and a vacuum connection. The one in the car is just a straight through design with an inlet and outlet for the fuel and no vacuum connection. Its located about 4 or 5 inches before the pressure sensor on the fuel line. The parts store guy checked every year of cougar for me and none of them take this type of pressure regulator. The car has a returnless fuel system.
Any help with the bucking problem or pressure regulator quirk would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Fuel pressure regulator
The FPR was only used on the RETURN system in early 99.
The fuel pressure on the returnless Duratec is controlled by the fuel pump, and monitored by the fuel rail pressure sensor.
You need a new pressure sensor.
