OK, well I am interested in beginning to look into this... (having a custom shop build a SOLID tranny for me)any suggestions as to what I should be looking for in terms of parts to have made?

I'm 100% interested in any ATX upgrades. I know, I know, I should've gotten the MTX, but, anything I can do to the ATX to apply some added horsepower (in the future, of course) would make me just ducky.

However, I'm thinking the easiest and most economical route would be to sell my ATX cougar and get something MTX -- custom front-wheel drive tranny work isn't anything near cheap!!!

if you think about it gettin an atx racing tranny would be cheaper than buying a MTX cougar. and it'd be better cause you'd never have to grind gears, adn your shifting would be perfect everytime.... which would make you more efficient than most MTX drivers....

Well, that's good news. They make those, huh? How much does a racing tranny usually run, and who makes 'em?

Again, this is for future reference. My Coug' isn't even close to harnessing enough HP to require a tranny upgrade. It just gives me more confidence that I'll be able to put more and more performance mod's on my car, without having an abrupt end just b/c my tranny won't handle the power. I plan on keeping my Coug' for quite a while, even if I buy something else (she's just too p'erty!)

    Thanks,

    Dan

Well reportedly level ten (www.levelten.com) is the way to go, but I am unaware of anyone who has one of their 'bullet proof' trannies on a new cougar... 'yet'

Hopefully once i get my headers and intake manifold done i can think about giving them a call.

I haven't paid much attention, but are there a lot of blown CD4E's out there? Automatics generaly can take more torque than manual trans. I would think that until people start breaking them like they have with the MTX75, I'd spend the bux on power. The only thing I'd consider (after all the power has been added) is a custom chip to firm up the shifts.

Then, I shouldn't really worry about the ATX drawbacks unless it comes to supercharging and turbo?

How about NOS with a stock ATX, provided everything else has been upgraded, engine-wise, to handle the NOS...will it work?

I guess I have too much "Fast and the Furious" and not enough working car-knowledge running through my blood today.

As far as the chip goes, it certainly does firm up the shift points quite nicely, and it revs MUCH higher through the shifts...

As far as the ATX goes, tis true i have heard of no blowouts as of yet, but when all is said in terms of bolt on mods, i think that i will certainly be stressing the tranny a bit... an added plus with going with someone like level ten is that they provide a high stall torque converter when they do the tranny build... This would (imho) be of benefit to our ATX's
