Re: Svt Cam Swap
i'm gonna be doing this with the motor in the car soon...my book says you need to remove the water pump pulley from the inlet cam...do you? How tough is it to get the crank pulley off ? (i don't have a puller)...i'm also a bit concerned about sealing the timing cover up...any advice ?..G.

Re: Svt Cam Swap
You will need a puller to properly remove the crank pulley. Re-installation is even more difficult, since you CANNOT use any type of hammer or strike to seat it- Any impact has the potential to un-seat the bearings or throw the crank off its alignment.
I bought an identically threaded long bolt, and used varying numbers of washers and actually tighten the pulley back on. This risks stripping the threads inside the crank, however- But as long as you're grabbing at least 3 full turns of threads, I haven't had a problem with this method. By the way, you don't have to remove the water pump pulley. Just remove the 2 bolts that hold the cam seal bracket on. You'll need a new seal bracket gasket (what Bill J. and I call the "squiggle" gasket) to re-install. All new timing cover gaskets are required. You'll need some black RTV silicone and put a dime-sized dot at each point on the block where the heads/block meet (i.e. any place there's a break in the sealing surface).

Re: Svt Cam Swap
The crank pulley main bolt is 18mm. The threads in the pulley itself are M8x1.25 - Put in three bolts through the pulley remover plate and into the threads. Tighten those threads, then back out the main remover plate bolt to push the pulley off the crank.
