Re: Svt Maf Vs. Stock 2.5 Maf
The SVT boys on CEG say there is no difference between the SVT and stock 2.5 MAF sensor.
All it does is measure airflow, and the size is identical.

Yep, MAF's are the same. There was a write-up on FCO a few years back that detailed this.
People still make $$ selling SVT MAF's which I think it really funny!

Re: Svt Maf Vs. Stock 2.5 Maf
Correction- A Contour/Cougar MAF is a Contour/Cougar MAF, SVT or no. There is a difference between return-style (metal) and returnless (plastic) MAFs- Something in the calibration code.
Those of us (like me with my old Cougar) used SVT Lightning MAFs for the simple reason that the stock MAF can only measure a certain volume of air- Beyond that, the MAF voltage pegs at 5V (4.6?) and the ECU can no longer compute the correct injector pulse width. So, for F/I cars above a certain horsepower rating (>300?), you need not only a larger MAF, but the correct calibration tables for that MAF (hence my use of the SVT Lightning MAF, as my tuner had the correct tables for it).

Re: Svt Maf Vs. Stock 2.5 Maf
Jebus now I feel like a dip****. When I build my motor and dropped it in I got a new instake which just so happened to come with a black plastic maf in it. I liked the plastic maf better than my metal one so I dropped it in, car ran like crap. Mess around with things thinking I missed something finally switch the sensors from my maf metal maf to the plastic one and try again runs perfect again. Finally this makes sense as to what the hell was going on.
