What else do I need for my SVT UIM ???

I have recently purchased an SVT UIM that was originally on a 2000 Contour it has the thorottle body on it.

Pics are attached.

Can someone please advise if this will bolt on and if not what other parts I will need.

I want to put it on my 2000 Cougar.

Is your car a manual or automatic transmission?

If manual, you need the SVT Contour throttle cable. If auto, you need the SVT contour cruise control cable.

You also need an EGR gasket.

can't you just use the cable on the other cougar...

Manual needs an auto throttle cable
Auto needs a Manual cruise control cable

That could be much easier to find in the wild

Re: What else do I need for my SVT UIM ???

BOTTOM LINE:

If your Cougar is an automatic, you need a cruise control cable from a manual car.

If your Cougar is a manual, you need a throttle cable from an automatic car.

Buy a pair of upper manifold gaskets and an EGR gasket, as mentioned.

Re: What else do I need for my SVT UIM ???

I am in Australia my car is Euro spec 2.5 ATX Cougar.

Am I right in assuming that the throttle body on my existing manifold will fit straight on it if need be.

Also I presume there is no difference between the standard UIM gasket and the one required for the SVT.

Please let me know guys otherwise I will have to order some parts from the USA.

If need be. But honestly, you can install it straight up as-is, and use your current throttle cable. The cruise control won't attach unless you get a new cable from a MTX model. But that doesn't stop you from driving - it just means you can't use your cruise control.

The gaskets are identical.

Re: What else do I need for my SVT UIM ???

Thanks guys I can't wait to get it installed. My mechanic will be pleased it is an easy job. I don't know about the cable though as manual versions of this car do not have cruise so maybe the set up is different. However as long as I know it will work i can deal with the cable issue later.

Will the new UIM make a noticeable difference to power and economy??

Re: What else do I need for my SVT UIM ???

The throttle body makes the most difference.

I installed the SVT manifold with my stock throttle body still in place, and although it did feel more powerful, it was nothing compared to when I finally added an SVT throttle body.

Economy - probably not. You'll be enjoying the power too much

Re: What else do I need for my SVT UIM ???

My mechanic completed the install yesterday and of course I have to now order the manual cruise control cable which I will do shortly, I don't use it that often anyway.

The only problem now is the air intake.

The air inlet on the throttle body is bigger than standard so the rubber air intake tube had to be stretched onto the inlet. This means it is out of shape and I think it is affecting my fuel consumption. Certainly the fuel figures on the digital read out are all over the place. Last night whilst stationary at traffic lights it shot up to 17.5L/100k so it can't be right. I will be lossing a little horsepower as well.

Can anyone recommend where I can buy a short ram tube that will fit the throttle body I only need the tube as I already have a K&N filter.

I must say it has made a big difference as it pulls a lot harder now and when I light it up it sounds even better.
