2.5L Crank + internals.

Hello,

I just bought a car that spun a crankshaft bearing. I was wondering if anyone knows of companies that sell after market crank rebuild kits...?

Also, besides SVT cams, are there any internals available after market that I can look into?

Thanks guys,
-James

Re: 2.5L Crank + internals.

Nobody sells aftermarket crank rebuild kits. You need to pull the bearings and inspect for damage. If it's damaged pull the crank and have it ground down and install oversized bearings. Otherwise get a new crank or a new engine.

There really isn't much for aftermarket internals. A few companies have pistons avaiable at a price ($1k+) but most are made to order.

We build and sell 3L's that drop into Cougars/Contours. See the link in my sig for more info if that seems appealing.

Re: 2.5L Crank + internals.

I would go with the 3L but I am already tight on cash.

That isn't even including tags and insurance for my new car...

I have this engine that has the spun bearing with 73K miles and then I have another car, a 99 Cougar with 97K miles and a working engine.

Should I swap engines or should I repair the one in there?

Has anyone rebuilt their lower engine?

I'm sure people have done engine swaps, is there anything really hard I should know about?

How long should either project take me? I have access to a race car shop with a lift, engine crane, impacts everything... Pretty much whatever I need... Including a helping hand...

Re: 2.5L Crank + internals.

Hell with all those tools, a helper, a little research on the enginer and all the parts needed ready to go you could have it pulled in a short day and back in in a short day. Add machine shop time for the crank and maybe block and rebuild time of a few hours and your ready to go. Longest holding point would be the machine shop time. You can pull or drop in these engines in a short day with help or a full day or less by yourself. They are tight in there but really not too bad to work on.

Heh...

Change of plans...

We accidently blew up one of the racing engines of theirs while working on it in the pit last week

We have been kicked outta the garage for like a month...

How long will it take us to get the engine out on jack stands?

We'll still have a crane, impacts, and good tools...

3 hours.

That's by myself though, using all the tools you mentioned. Primarily because I've done more of these than Britney Spears <Insert joke here>...

If it's your first time plan for 6+ hours to remove.
