There is no Variable Valve ANYTHING on the stock Duratec in a cougar.

Some Duratec engines do have VVT, but none that I know of can change the Valve Lift.

I think the Hydraulic valve adjusters you're thinking of is to adjust the Valve Lash, Not change the valve lift.

...And we're done here. Before the flame war starts. Question answered- None of the Duratecs that came with or fit into the Cougars (without stupid amounts of re-wiring) use any type of valve adjustment.

The HLAs control lash- Just like their name implies.
