it's amazing..
move this thread if it needs to be somewhere else.
it really is amazing to see the things that some exhaust shops think they can get away with.. i finally got my mufflers in so i got excited and went to the shop here in Auburn. I've heard nothin but good things about these guys and i had already been to their shop once to tell them exactly what i want and to get a price quote on it. Guy says it wont be anymore than $200 and im like ehh... anyhow.. a week has gone by since my first visit with them.. i call them up to make sure they aren't busy and head up there.. i get there.. the guy recognizes me and hes like "you've got those 3" inlet mufflers right?" after a short conversation he takes my car around back to start work.. Now i was supposed to be getting a 3" setup from the cat back with the two N1 mufflers i have on the end. I told him that when i went the first time.. Guy gets done, sounds pretty good. but i thought about it all night and couldn't help but wonder why it wasn't any louder than it was.... This mornin i got up and decided to investigate the problem. aparently he thought i was stupid.. He left everything stock from the cat all the way back and then grabbed a y-pipe off a rack back there (y-pipe was 2 1/2") then welded 3" pipe to one side and 2 3/4" to the other and just filled it all in very horrible lookin.. i honestly thought i was gonna puke when i saw the welds.. However I am going back after my class today and i will either get my money back or a new setup the way i wanted it the first time.. sorry.. after i saw it all this mornin i had no1 to b*tch about it too.. and also has anyone run a 3" setup on our cars?? and how did it sound? |

I am running a custom 3" exhaust all the way back, high-flow cat into Dual Flowmaster 40 series mufflers and 4" truck tips (sounds big, but they match the car perfectly). It's, well, loud as hell. Car is fine under 2k rpm, but once those secondaries open it gets a bit crazy... E1

Yeah, as discussed many times, 2.5" is perfect for the 2.5L, prob gonna be too big for my I4 but oh well, we'll see today when I get it back from the shop.

Re: it's amazing..
whether he needs a 3 inch set up or not (you dont) he was promised one thing and didnt get it... with horrible weld job.
take pictures of everything, make copies of your invoice, if they gave you one, and then confront them about it. If they act like a dick, then report them to the BBB.

Re: it's amazing..
well i just got back from the place and they somewhat fixed the problem..
the welds and pipe they used still look like crap.. but it sounds like a beast! i went back and told the guy there was obviously a mixup and we talked for a second and i told him what i wanted.. so now, i'm runnin everything stock at the moment until you get past the cat, then its a straight pipe all the way back to the new mufflers. ill try to get some pics and a sound clip sometime this evenin. |

Re: it's amazing..
It can't be a straight pipe back to the mufflers unless you went under the gas tank, which isn't the best idea. The stock system curved around it for a reason.

Re: it's amazing..
Well I didn't mean a "straight" pipe literally, it still curves like the stock one..
matter of fact it is the stock pipe cause thats all they did, so I'm gonna end up doin again later on my own i guess, i just didn't have time to do it with class and work so I had it done. |

Re: it's amazing..
I'm surprised you didn't look at the exhaust while it was still in the shop.

Re: it's amazing..
Geez, any time one of our cars goes into a shop, I stand in the door of the shop, if not further in (if they let me, some garages wont let you inside to watch for insurance reasons)... No one has yet tried to pull anything on me while I was watching.
