Re: broken part on uim

I had to remove a broken one once.

I was trying to thread the hole with a tap, while the broken piece was still in there. The broken piece finally let go, and I was able to pull it out with the tap. Once that's free, you can just insert the broken part BACK into the hole; it seats fine. You'll just need to swap out the PCV hose for a SLIGHTLY longer one.

Re: broken part on uim

You cannot buy the piece separately. Break it off, drill out the rest. Go to Home Depot pick up a barbed brass fitting that is threaded on one end. Thread the whole with a tap, use a little Teflon tap to get a tight seal, and screw it in. You will also need a slightly longer piece of hose to run to the pcv valve, which can be purchased by the foot at any autoparts store, its kept behind the counter, so most people don't know its there. Also, if you are buying other stuff at the time, and you tell them you only need about 6 inches they will normally just give it to you for free. In total its less then a $5 fix.

Re: broken part on uim

ok, thanks for the ideas guys....now before i decide which one to do im wondering if the brass fitting is a better idea. it seems like it would never come out. so i wouldnt ever have to worry about it. what do you guys think?

and one more question... someone told me that you had to remove that hose anyways before you get the uim powdercoated... is that true or b.s.?
