Re: Dual Exhaust

Well, the most common mod after intake and exhaust is headers (I/H/E).

Do you have a short-ram intake or CAI? If you've got a short-ram, I'd definitely get a CAI as your next mod. You can pick one up from Nautilus Performance (link below).

MSDS offers a headers/y-pipe combo for $726. Nautilus Performance offers headers for $250 (uncoated) you'd want to get them coated, which is $35. If you went with Nautilus, you could either A) optimize your stock y-pipe or B) purchase an aftermarket y-pipe from Nautilus Performance for $225 (uncoated). It's pretty easy to optimize your stock y-pipe and from my understanding actually flows better than aftermarket y-pipes (although the difference may be negligible). Most importantly, optimizing your y-pipe is MUCH cheaper. If you're wondering, the MSDS headers DO mount up with the stock y-pipe.

After I/H/E, you'd be looking at an added 10-20 WHP.

To break it down...CAI ~$150, exhaust ~$400, headers ~$300. Total = ~$850 for 20 WHP.

In my '99 Cougar, I was debating on doing headers, but with my budget, I looked at the cost of headers ~$300 and realized I'd be gaining maybe 10-15 WHP with that. Then, I looked at nitrous and realized for ~$600, I could gain 75 WHP+. I chose the latter. So, you might want to look into nitrous as well.

If I had the money, I would add headers/y-pipe to my current car (2001 2.5L MTX). Then, I would upgrade to an SVT clutch and get some nitrous.

Re: Dual Exhaust

Right now it is a short-ram. Looking at my engine bay, i don't see where a 3" pipe would fit through to go anywhere else... I've built the intake i have so far out of a couple parts from the CAI off my old car and a couple new pieces to get the right length... I was planning on continuing to do it that way....

Re: Dual Exhaust

CAI goes through the stock intake little rubber boot hole and requires some cutting of the inner fender I believe. Not sure exactly as I have a 2.0 and thats a bit different.
