    oil pressure

A question for the pros, when reading an oil pressure gauge i am trying to figure out what factors will play into its reading. the volume of oil in the system, temp? also what type of reading should one be getting from a stock 2.5l on a oil pressure gauge and the reading of a 2.5l svt? (just have a project in mind and want to figure somethings out)

    Re: oil pressure

temp, amount, vescosity of the oil all will play into how the guage reads.

all duratec run the same oil pressure.

now where are you reading the oil pressure, by the A/C compressor/oil filter in the main oil galley or on the head?

I have my sender on my remote oil filter so the reading are pretty close to tapping it on the block as mentioned above

hot idle was ~20 psi and cruise on the highway above 2k rpm was 65 psi. off idle and between 2k rpm it varied. on cold startup 75+ psi.

if installed on the head you also get 75+ on cold startup but only about 35 psi crusing and 12 psi at idle.

    Re: oil pressure

On cold days tapped at the head, I would get close to 100psi on my mechanical gauge (with high-pressure isolator). Hot at idle was below 15. General rule of thumb is 10psi for every 1000RPMs at temperature.

Tapping the block or at the oil filter is more accurate than any head tap- You'll be monitoring pressure where it matters most- The main & rod bearings.

exactly why I moved the sending unit for my electic guage, the remote oil filter provided for a very easy install.

but I would say and radical change in oil pressure would be noticed where ever the sender is installed, but you can't mess nor go worng with reading at the correct location ...

There is an allen-head plug in the rear cylinder head, just below the EGR valve. Couldn't be easier.

yea once you become accustomed to looking at the same pressures and what-not you'll know when there is an issue. also, everything said above is correct just FYI. i see the same pressures out of the duratecs that i have been around.
