Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

Alright, changed my oil today and notice that my "brand new" Serp belt is getting eaten slowly and there is black rubber dust all over that side of the engine bay. Anyone have any problems like this with the PS and Alt underdrive pulleys. And yes I do have a longer belt on there to compensate for the bigger pulleys. ideas?

Re: Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

did you check to make sure there where not any burs or sharp edges on the pullies left from machining?

is the belt routed correctly?

Re: Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

I'm gunna have to check both of those tomorrow. there isn't much material removed and they have been on for like 5k miles but still a little bit of a problem for me. I checked all pulleys just visually and a little more and nothignt moved at all and everything seemed smooth. There was one line in the center of the Alt pulley that the anodzation had been worn off somehow and I am wondering if this is where the problem is, if there is something going on with that pulley.

Re: Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

send a pm to 96blackse, hes a good guy and the product is great, this problem is nothing caused by the product that I can see yet and he is being very helpful with ideas of what might be wrong with this stuff.

Re: Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

Well things look secure as far as I can tell in there. Here is a picture of the line I am discussing on the Alt pulley and a picture of the dust from the belt on the PS pulley. Ideas?

Re: Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

The anodizing getting removed on the alternator pulley is normal it happens over time...

There is a little tab that sticks out near the top of powersteering pump where the line enters by the top engine mount check that your belt is not rubbing against that if it is just bend the tab a little further away from the belt

Can you see where the belt material is getting worn off from? Is there a line or anything on top of the belt? Sides?

Re: Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

don't notice much of anything odd about the belt. back bottom and sides looks good. I do have to talk to someone who repalced my idler pully to see what the one I got was froma nd see if that might be the problem too.

Re: Problems with Underdrive PS and Alt pulleys

Well this is an old topic but I think the issue is causing more problems now. My CEL has been flashing a little here and there if I go above 5k now this moring I hope in on my way to work and it starts flashing at like 2-3k I get back home po the car up on a jack and look around a little, the belt on the alt is not lined up correctly. I am going toget a replacement belt and see if that fixes the flashing problem if not it is time for a new alternator again.
