    UIM/LIM Port and Polish

So I went to buy a SVT UIM/LIM from a wreckers down in flordia and got a perty good deal ($305 USD shipped) so I get them and its the stock ones (explained all of this in another thread)

I was going to call the junkyard after work when I ran into this dude my brother works with (hes got a crazy fast truck BTW so he knows what hes talking about..i think) Tells me not to bother sending them back with all that hassel because SVT "isn't that hot" what he told me to do is to take it to an engine shop in town and have them bore it our, or port and polish it, to make it better then SVT spec.

Called a few places and this one shop in town said they'll port and polish it for "probably less then $200 CND"...so I think thats the plan, going to head down there tommorow and see what they can do, hopefully make it better then SVT spec.

    What do you guys think?

    Re: UIM/LIM Port and Polish

I think no!!! this will be of no use to you and your brothers friend is full of crap!

The SVt intake is the best intake for our car(unless you want to put a 3L split port intake on)

Porting and polishing the intake? Do they have access to extrude hone? My guess is no. So all they are going to do ids open up the primary and secondary ports and do nothing at all to the runners. This is worthless! The point of an SVT intake 1: larger ports yes, 2: the runners are extrude honed( this makes the runners slightly larger and the putty that is run through in the process cleans up all of the rough area inside on the intake making less turbulent airflow)

So no send that thing back to the junk yard and spend the $305 with Chris(blackcoog sp?) and get a real SVT intake.

Futhermore, unless they make new butterflies for the LIM, if they bore it out, the butterflies will be too small to seal the secondary runners when they are closed. Send them back.

Unless the LIM is the larger SVT sized LIM, and it just does not have the SVT sticker. Then you could maybe keep them, but insist that they junkyard refund all but $50, then send the UIM to be extrude honed.

    Re: UIM/LIM Port and Polish

thanks guys! I measured the ports just to be sure, the UIM is def not SVT (27mm/31mm) but im sort of confused about the lower..

    Inlet:32.5/34
    Outlet 32.5/33

I don't think it would be one size all the way through..

They are also dirty as hell so this could effect my mesurments.. does anyone know what the non-SVT spec port sizes are on the LIM? I tried to search unsucessfully

    Re: UIM/LIM Port and Polish

Oh I forgot to post.... I was already looking at his site and he says the SVT one is:

    Inlet:33.5mm/34.7mm
    Outlet:32.5/34mm

So yeah im leaning towards its not an SVT spec, but that is a ton of carbon in there, and just curions if anyone has the specs for the non-svt LIM...because it is probably the only thing not on Demon SVT's site.

And thatks for all the help/info/advice really appreciate it guys!

YAY! i just kept searching for stuff and I found this so i'm guessing that the LIM is SVT bit a TON of carbon buildup. But thanks again guys!!

    Re: UIM/LIM Port and Polish

ok the LIM should not be your concern, its not the real restriction.

also it depends what you want, you can just as easily send the UIM to extrude hone and get a more agressive metal removal than the SVT UIM [btw, if you werent aware extrude hone is the company that did every one of the SVT manifolds... infact the contour svt is what brought that company public, it was their first commercial customer and they've done 20k of our manifolds]. So if you send it to them now, they've perfected it enough that they can pull alot more metal out. to give you an idea of the amount of metal, I shipped them my stock one at 19 pounds, the one I received back was 14.65 pounds.

You should not be confusing extrude honing and porting, they are 2 very different things. With extrude honing, they dont change the port sizes, they just remove a ****-load of metal inbetween. Porting is where they attempt to match sizes and shapes between intake components [for instance, the LIM has intake ports larger than the UIM, so its an area you have unsmooth air]. I have 2 spare UIM's, one is Max Honed and the other is Ported. Tomorrow I'll bring them both into work, show you photo comparisons, and give you their accurate weight [to give you a comparison on how much metal extrude hone plans on removing of a restriction compared with porting from a speed shop]... neither one is bad, they will both complement each other, just honing will be alot more bang for your buck.
