    Fuel Pump options

    hey everyone;
so with my supercharger eating up all the fuel my stock pump can give it I have been shopping around for an upgraded pump. It seems to be a popular upgrade to go to the svt focus pump or even a ford GT pump.

Upon searching the focus forums I have found that the stock svt pump for 2002 is the same pump as all the other focus' but the 03/04's have a different pump; I have heard that the good svt pump is the "green top" I'm assuming this is the 03/04 one.

most of the svt pumps I have found have been off-brands however (carter, aritex) and I think I would rather go with a genuine motorcraft part.

as for the ford GT fuel pump MOTORCRAFT Part # PFB81; Rockauto has it listed at $159.79 and it is said to fit in the focus basket without much work.

I wanted to get some other opinions before I order the part and see what any other people have done to upgrade.

Honestly, I'd just go with the SVT one. Tom said that there is no difference in the pumps of any of the Foci....I'd beg to differ. He's a good guy for reliable tunes, but honestly thats it for me. You aren't going for Cobra numbers & the SVT pump is good for the most you can push out of the JRSC. If you need anything it's gonna be a BAP & I don't think you'll get to that point until much later.

Here's KB's document on the ford pumps seeing as we can't get a direct answer for the Ford themselves: http://www.kennebell.net/techinfo/ge...elpumptech.pdf

    Re: Fuel Pump options

I thought about a BAP; but if my fuel pump isnt keeping up that leads me to believe that its getting weak (fuel pressure drops as low as 25psi @6000rpm); the stock pump shouldnt have a problem with my expected 160-170whp without the BBK pulley installed. I dont want to buy a solution only to have to replace the fuel pump anyway. Its easier to install the BAP; but the fuel pump would cost less anyway.

Tom told me that the green top svt pumps flow more fuel. and they were used in the newer svt's (cant find a part number though). Price is a factor too; If I can get a better pump for the same price, why not? I believe that the ford GT pump is a 255lph pump.

I havent been able to find a link to a newer style svt fuel pump either; they are all either off branded or the older style pump that has the same part number as all the other foci.

that would work too; I have heard that they can be very loud. They are pretty inexpensive by the looks of it though. That may just be a good way to go.

    Re: Fuel Pump options

Selling for the same as I paid... Plus a bit extra to cover Canadian shipping... No need in me making money off it... That's not right... Glad I could help out!

    Re: Fuel Pump options

be careful, not all walbros are designed to be used in returnless systems.

as for the SVTF pump, there is no difference between the 03/04 SVT pump vs the standard 03/04 Zetec pump. they are the same, both have the same part numbers according to Steve at Tousley as well as they have been tested to flow about the same (only rated at 155LPH).

probably your best choice, if the walbro doesnt work out, would be the Ford GT pump. its a 265LPH pump designed to run on a returnless fuel system and it is pretty much a direct swap, just have to splice in the proper connectors.

    Re: Fuel Pump options

Sorry I meant get the green top SVT one & then later on if you still need more fuel you can go to the BAP. The GT40 pump is a dual pump btw for for later information.

I've heard mixed reviews on the Walbro for the Focus & other cars, the basket for the pump is apparently the problem. Honestly I'd try it though as they're dirt cheap to buy & if it doesn't work out there's always a honda owner needing one somewhere.
