belive me, on a 2.0l zetec you dont need any bigger than 2 1/4 piping. Thats probably better than a 2.5'' for your displacement anyways.

But yea, weapon r header.... and if you get one i STRONGLY advise you weld an 18 inch glasspack in your exhaust to resonate all the nasty popping sounds.

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

I notice popping sometimes in mine, i'm interested in this "glasspack" do you have any idea what it's called over here in England?

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

Any type of resonator would work, doesn't have to be glasspack. Mine is a Dynomax gets rid of the popping since it's streight piped.

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

But what, exactly is "Glasspack"? is it just some kind of glass packing, as in silencing material.

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

a glasspack is just a muffler that is packed with fiberglass Cherybomb is prolly the most commonly used type of glasspack
in this pic the green would be fiberglass.

from my experience.....not great as a muffler. dont sound very nice.
but as a resonator i would assume its a cost effective way to reduce the high pitched noise.

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

Thanks for that buddy, it just shows how simple stuff gets lost in translation. This is what i already have x2 on my dual exit system They were still "very poppy" so i put a decibel insert into each one, quartered the ends to baffle the sound and stuffed fibreglass into each one. Popping is practically cured except for the odd occasion.

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

I'd tell you all what I am doing with exhaust... but you'd lol at me

3"-- and before you all say anything... why the heck not? its just money after all... besides I have the Cat on order...

any way, the Weapon-R headers... are they decent enough for $350?
Or should I have some fabricated... I do want F/I down the road... and do we have any options on manifolds designed for turbos... like any focus parts?

and any recomendation on fart cans??? the style over the noise... I am going with huge exhaust so it shouldn't be too raspy... but I want something that can use the hanger where the existing exhaust hangs... none of that cut and place in-line crap. Besides I don't like tips

I don't want any V8 growl noise... some low tone, low profile sound, just something that won't grab too much attention... when I am not flooring it.. something neighborhood friendly

I was looking at vibrantperformance.com
It has good prices on some things... plus most is warrented.... and a local guy sells the stuff...

like 45% of the future mods are transfering over to a future car. so I am a little more liberal when it comes to spending tha monies first time around.

and don't worry I already have a set of carbon fiber tail-light covers... to go with the rice muffler...

but this is turning into an interesting plan... hopefully it all pulls off ok..
next is intake, then wheels and suspension, then turbo setup with stock engine... then with focus power

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

3" is way to big for any NA 2L engine. even 2.5" is pushing the limits on an NA car.

Re: Zetec Exhaust Thread

Hey I wouldn't get this much heat if I stepped down to a 1.5"... whut gives?

I could run without headers and you'd probably think it better than having 3"

yeah its useless right now... maybe a 5hp gain tops... but F/I to come with in the next year God-willing wouldn't be too bad, sure maybe $100 more than a 2.5" set up if that...

heres my point... the pure novelty of it will make it worth while... ****s and grins is why I would do anything with the cougar
I enjoy it very much so as is, but slap some exhaust that I can fit my foot in, sir there is no price too great for that.

But really Dan, just thought It'd be nice to be different... if it makes you feel better we can fight with math over cubic feet per minute.... heck I think it be cool to know how much HP you would need to create a certain pressure drop/increase using various sizes of tubing.... I'll get on that tommorow maybe...
but we could use the injector create such and such hp with such and such pounds of fuel per hour, convert to metric, then to minutes, then calculate the moles of gasoline, then calculate the stociometric air to fuel ratio just to keep it simple, you could use the moles of gas after combustion to figure out how many square feet of exhuast per minute

then use manufacturers or what ever common knowledge out there for pipes with such and such a diameter and what will flow with such and such a pressure drop/build up

or we could do even more math.... but beyond calculating the pure volume of gas per minute.... the whole pressure area thing I am sort'a rusty with... and can't fathom how to figure out resistance/impeadence on a certain diameter other than looking it up...

Math War in the exhaust thread ?? nah I had fun the last go around... a great learning experiance for all....
